Remember, I have been on xolair for over 3 years now. Personally, it took me over a year to see any results. Not everyone is the same though. You might get relief within a few weeks or months. Just give it time. Doug Group founder
Guest guest
I have terrible allergies to several molds. I live in a very humid climate. Xolair has helped this considerably. There have been two times, however, since starting Xolair, where I was exposed to unusually high mold counts for several DAYS and of course I had acute episodes. For most of us with really high IgE counts, our bodies continue to manufacture new IgE, so we still have some " unbound " IgE, even after being on Xolair for a while. I have heard that supposedly we can go off Xolair after 2 or 3 years of taking it and not need it anymore, but that won't be the case if we continue to make IgE. Addy Group co-owner I can smell mold. I know within 5 minutes if I've been exposed. > > > > Has anyone used Xolair and gotten relief from asthma brought on by > > fungus and/or mold? specially interested in the fungus part. Guest guest
Hi Suzsummit: I don't understand what do you mean asthma brought on by mold/fungus. Most asthma patients are allergic to mold, and of course it will bring on asthma/sinus problems. You have to give the Xolair time. I've been on it three years, and I noticed a difference app. after my third month. I get 375mg. every two weeks. Just give it time. My 2nd Xolair shot is scheduled for next week and I am getting a little discouraged because I had a major flare this week (not fun) and am having trouble gaining control once again (yes, I had to start the evil candy again... It isn't common but it happens. Thanks becki -- I had a bronchoscopy back in November and I know they ran a bunch of cultures. LOTS of EOS (which is common in asthma) and inflamation -- also some things came out inconclusive. As long as the dr was getting the asthma under control he wasn't looking any further -- but since things seems to no longer be under control without prednisone --- it is time to look further. I too am greatful that I have an asthma dr that pushed for Xolair from the very beginning. And yes, 2 shots down and just waiting.... hoping that this will work... Otherwise I hate the fact of injecting something in my body... Guess I am just one of those all-natural type of people. I know -- I need to wait... 3 months, 6 months.... patience is not my best attribute :-) > > > > I don't understand what do you mean asthma brought on by > mold/fungus. Most asthma patients are allergic to mold, and of > course it will bring on asthma/sinus problems. There is a belief that my problems may have started with a mold or fungus that I became sesitve to OR it somehow got into my respitory system during a home remodel. I also had major hives and a virus back in Sept that seems to be my ground Zero for my asthma woes. My doctor actually only wanted to put me on Xolair for 3-6 months to attempt to get rid of the coughing (cough variant asthma). I was hoping that I wouldn't have to be on it for a long period of time (back to that all natural thing) but since my heart and high blood pressure has decided to be an issue all bets are off for now.
