Wow, I can't believe all the feedback about sinus and it's connection to

asthma symptoms. I am shocked to hear the magnitude of some people's sinus

problems, escalating to surgery and never ending infection. It makes me

feel a little bad for feeling sorry or myself about my own sinus symptoms.

My whole life that I can recall I have never been able to get up in the

morning and " be normal " . I have always had to blow, blow, blow my nose and

that has included more and more, hacking up the stuff that slides down the

throat too. I am lucky because I don't seem to have infections in there

(maybe 3 in 50 years) - just tons of mucous. I am talking about 3, 6 or 12

napkins full daily. I don't have sinus headaches or sneezing (well, once in

awhile), just a lot of this every morning, some of which ends up stimulating

the asthma.

Does anyone else live like this? I always feel like such a freak in the

morning. It takes me an hour to get it all cleared. I mean how can the body

create such volume?

On occasions when I roomed with a friend (seminar), I was mortified at

revealing my morning ordeal. It's just so disgusting....now I'm wondering

about that " wiping out the soft palate " thing someone just posted about but

I'm not keen on getting it done or on rinsing.

I too am interested in the sinus chat

Leena.

I have been reading this board for awhile now and you all have been

very helpful - I am going on my 3rd month of Xolair shots and I am

very pleased with the results. I am also one of the one's who's

real problems originate in the sinuses. I have had 5 sinus

surgeries in the past 4 years. I just got off of prednisone -

finally - it has been very difficult with the withdrawal symptoms,

however. I also have extremely thick mucus and I have to tell you

that rinsing every morning is extremely important. I think it would

save you from having to blow and blow and blow, Leena. I didn't

like it at first, but now I don't mind it at all.

Kathy, Leena, et al -

Like Kathy I find rinsing really helps. I use the recipe that's

available on the National Jewish website and make my own sinus

rinse. There are several commercially made rinsing mixes that are

quite safe.

I have a " cocktail " pill that I take that helps with mucus. It's

called ResconMX (Ralix is the generic) - it has a little

antihistamine, a lot of sudafed, and an anticholinergic to help

control mucus. I encourage anyone with sinus issues to ask their doc

about it.

Leena - I've had four sinus surgeries, one of which removed my soft palate and

uvula. I can't snore now if I want to. They've straightened out my septum,

enlarged the openings to my sinuses and scraped out thefungus and mold

infections, bacterial infection, MRSA and misc. other crud infestations - I

think they even found a petrified cockroach up there along with a colony of fire

ants that had taken up residence.

In spite of all that, my condition hasn't improved measurably. Part of that may

be a result of having too many dox. I have ENT, infectious disease, pulmonary

and primary care dox, and they don't all necessarily agree, and prescribe

different doses of the same drugs. I had my second set of shots of xolair

yesterday, and didn't experience the violent reaction my first set precipitated.

Just headache, stomach ache and joint ache this time - but I made sure I took

some prednisone and allegra with the shots. I ended up in the emergency room

after the first shots.

Speaking of getting up, I usually figure on at least 60 minutes to try to clear

up enough crud to be able to fall asleep at night - there's something about

wheezing in an ever varying series of sounds and tones along with clicks, pops

and crackles, and about 30 minutes in the morning to cough up and clear out all

the crud that accumulates during the night. When I go to bed at night, there

are at least a dozen tissues spread around in the bed with me. Tissue boxes are

located in every room in multiple locations. I'm sure I've used at least a

forest and a half.

My mucus production over the years I estimate at 1500 gallons, considerably in

excess of that from my prostate, enlarged though it may be.
