Guest guest
> hey. my name is and i'm 16 years old. I started xolair when I was 14. It has helped my life sooo much. Before I couldn't go on field trips, go to parties, go outside to recess, and other things. I was in and out of the emergency rooms so many times througgout my 7th grade year, then i started xolair. It changed me so much, for the better. Toward the end of my 8th grade year (( after starting xolair )) i ran the mile for the first time in PE class. I was excited. lol. The only side effects that I have had, in the past 2 years is joint pain. My doctor took me off xolair ( my choice ) for 2 months, to see if it was causing the joint pain. It turns out that it was , so my doctor and my mom let me decide if i wanted to continue taking the xolair and I thought about it.I decided to continue taking the xolair because I felt better on it. It was alot easier to breath. Since I have been on the xolair i have only had one flare up. IT was a year ago in September. I was hospitalized twice during that time. But overall I have done really well with xolair and i couldn't imagine my life without it. =] so good luck with everything. If you have any questions i would be glad to answer them. - > Hello Ladies and Gentleman, I just like to thank you for welcoming me > to the group. Guest guest
I think it comes down to weighing the potential risks vs. benefits. Presently, there are no significant side effects from Xolair but the drug has only been on the market for a few years. We don't know if anything will show up 20 years from now. But, we do know how destructive Prednisone is. If your daughter has been on prednisone since she was 7 and continues to take it, as we suspect she will have to, she is going to experience significant side effects such as diabetes, osteoporosis, weight gain, depression, etc...... If Xolair gets your daughter off prednisone then she may be able to live a long, healthy life. I thought the cutoff for Xolair was 12 years old but I'm just another Xolair patient and not a doctor or health care professional. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi, i would like to make a few comments please if i can.... Nayaii. My son is a very severe asthmatic all his life. been steriod dependent for many of years. It has done alot of things to my son. weight gain other problems. in and out of hospitals like crazy.it was very horrible for me and him both. we would try anything just to get off the steriods even for a bit. so then the dr said there was new hope and he wanted to try it on my son.. i said sure if its going to get my son off steriods and stay out of the hospital a lil bit then we will try it.. then he told us about xolair. IM NOT A DR. OR A NURSE.. PLEASE ALWAYS ADVISE YOUR DR PLEASE.. EVERY PATIENT IS DIFFERENT.... we are on the xolair. my son gets the shots every 2 weeks. he hasnt had any side effects at all.. that doesnt mean that one day he wont. so i just keep a daily planner when he gets it and if theres any side effects and take it to his dr when we go.. so far since getting the shots, he was able to get off the steriods and cut his hospital visits too as well.. thank the lord for the xolair... i thank god every day... every person is different so if you want your daughter to get off steriods and be out of the hospital.. wouldnt you want to try it if you was able to? GOOD LUCK AND MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU... HAVE AN ASTHMA FREE DAY. LIN ~~~~PITTSBURGH PA McLaughlin <gmclaughlin1000@...> wrote: I think it comes down to weighing the potential risks vs. benefits. Guest guest
Sorry for the delay in my response. i went to a specialtist at Riley Hospital for Kids in Indy and they didn't really know if it would create a problem in the long run, but I can tell you that my joint problem has gotten better. So I hope that this helps =] > > > hey. my name is and i'm 16 years old. I started xolair when I > was 14. It has helped my life sooo much. Guest guest
WE have had two people in the group who have experienced moderate to severe hearing loss since starting Xolair. A couple of other people have replied that they've experienced some joint pain. I have been a severe allergic asthmatic since I was three years old. I had frequent hospitalizations and was sick more than I was healthy. My parents would have tried anything. Their desperation at my condition has continued into my adulthood. Each of us has a different body chemistry. It may be that our group members with hearing loss have one specific gene different from the rest of us that reacts dramatically differently at the onset of Xolair. Also, each of us has different insurance, and a different medical community and those certainly play roles in our decision making whether we like it or not. The day that Xolair was approved by the FDA, I had been at the ER with my asthma at 3am that morning. I told my husband that I didn't care what the possible side effects might be, I had to try anything that had a good chance of improving my life. I have not had any trouble with Xolair and it has greatly improved the quality of my life. Good luck making your decision, Addy Group co-owner > Hello Ladies and Gentleman, I just like to thank you for welcoming me > to the group. Guest guest
Hello Addy, I have noticed several children are taking Xolair now. Neal was the first child in Arkansas to receive it. We worried and searched tons of information before making the decision to go ahead with Xolair. We were in the Doctor's office when we learned that Neal would receive his shot the next week. He had been taken to ER the day before in an ambulance with bleeding in his stomach and severe asthma. The 13 different medications that he had taken to stay alive was taking a toll on his body. That was four years ago! His medications have been reduced to almost nothing. pyle456 <coachmac@...> wrote: WE have had two people in the group who have experienced moderate to severe hearing loss since starting Xolair. Guest guest
I'll have to remember to tell my parents about Neal. They would be thrilled to know there are children who can lead nearly normal lives thanks to Xolair, and don't have to live in the bubble any more!!!! I can't believe I haven't said anything to them. THanks for reminding us, for keeping us posted, and congrats to you on Neal doing so well. Addy > > Hello Ladies and Gentleman, I just like to thank you for welcoming > me > > to the group. Guest guest
I have really considered starting a group just for children, but there is so much vital information here that I wouldn't want anyone to miss any of it. pyle456 <coachmac@...> wrote: I'll have to remember to tell my parents about Neal.
