Guest guest
Hello Everyone, My name is and I'm new to the world of fermentation. This week, I’m taking a four evening workshop on wild fermentation with Sandor Katz at the Natural Gourmet Institute in NYC. This class has made me really excited about starting my own ferments, especially veggies.  Are there any folks out there in the New York City area who know where I can obtain ceramic crocks? I’ve seen things online but they are kinda expensive and then there is shipping.  Any recommendations would be appreciated.  Be well, ________________________________________________________________________ More new features than ever. Guest guest
I got excited as well and also did not want to invest in another space taking device, so I started with a one gallon glass jar I got at the Korean store (they repackaged the kim chi from it) for about 50 cents. It works and I don't feel the need for anything more. You can also use regular quart canning jars. The gallon jar takes about 2 large cabbage heads for sauerkraut or kim chi Connie > > > > > Hello Everyone, > > My name is and I'm new to the world of fermentation. > Are there any folks out > there in the New York City > area who know where I can obtain ceramic crocks? Guest guest
Hi - Hope you have fun with Sandor! I live in NYC and have found crocks at flea markets around town. Just make sure that the crock is not cracked. One of the most successful containers I've used is the crock that comes in a slow cooker. The shape of mine is perfect and it has a good lid. These are often sold in flea markets as well. Happy Fermenting. Nora
