Not all that unusual, SDD. When I went up to Duke Univ. Hosp., they cultured my

sinuses and found a fungus infection, at least one virus infection and MRSA (for

those who don't know, that's one of the most dangerous and virulent forms of

staph) They essentially did a D & C (you ladies know what I mean) of my sinuses

- a rather brutal procedure involving much bleeding - followed by six weeks of

vancomycin daily infusions via a pic line going from my arm into my neck. Got

rid of the MRSA and the other infections temporarily - the MRSA is still gone,

although the local dox here in town insisted on surgically going through part of

my skull to get to my sinuses for " pure " samples to culture - not too bad under

full anesthesia. The problem is that as soon as I get one of my frequent colds

or flus (that doesn't look right - is flus the plural of flu?) I become

reinfected right away. Then I get put on the antibiotic merrygoround. So,

after four sinus surgeries, I don't seem to be any better off than before, hence

the xolair, although they now have me on 8mg of prednisone per day, which my

primary care doc says won't give me any side effects - he contends less than

10mg per day is no problem. This may be good, because prednisone seems to be

the most effective treatment so far, and after two cat scans and a dog scan, the

pulmonary dude says my sinuses are still screwed up.

I have chronic recurring (never really goes away) sinusitis. It's shown up on

2 cat scans and 1 mri. Never had any one say it was fungus, though. I tried

inhaling, using an adapter with my nebulizer (bought for asthma) a concoction of

an anti-fungal and antibiotic and steroid but it actually triggered asthma

attacks, caused a lot of mucous and caused me to temporarily lose my voice.

Antibiotics do help but pseudoephedrine is also important - every day!!! Funny,

doctors look in my nose and say there's nothing there but on images it really

does show up. Drives me crazy - so frustrating! I'm hoping xolair will help

w/that too.

So, yes, I'd like to chat or email occasionally. I'm working too so time is

limited. Thanks!
