I began Xolair injections 11 months ago. I rarely use albuterol anymore. I have not been to an emergency room either. My life has changed. For me Xolair has made a tremendous difference. Guest guest
It's working for me. I saw my routine peak flow readings raise from around 80% of normal to around 100% of normal. Dust, pollens and molds no longer seem to kick off an allergic reaction and most of the time I feel like a normal person. Prior to Xolair, I had accepted compromised breathing as normal from not really knowing any better (except when things really got bad and I took that troubled wonder drug, prednisone). I can now even run short distances when before Xolair I was past the point of even trying. My untreated breathing problems have left me dealing with permanent pulmonary problems but the best I can tell, I'm no longer sliding down that slippery slope to pulmonary failure and am planning on a normal life expectancy. Xolair has not helped so much in asthma attacks from odors (especially perfumes) but at around six months into the Xolair program I'm slowly starting to find myself more tolerant of odors. My last predisone rescue was four months ago and that was kicked off by perfumes, not allergens. I still take an occasional hit or two of albuterol when my airways start to close up but again the trigger is odors and maybe winter chills. But now albuterol is all it's taking to quickly get sustained relief. I do still take a suite of other long-acting asthma medications but hope to be dropping many of them in due time. > > My doctor suggests that I try xolair. Guest guest
I am so happy to find this group! I was told I need to start xolair last March after incontrollable asthma and a blood test. I am extremely strong willed and decided there was not enough info on the drug. I started going to a natural doctor and taking all kinds of vitamins and minerals, and other ingredients I just learned about. The other ingredients could be counted as a low dosage of steroids since March. I was 99% better until I quit taking these. Now after talking to my doctor I am about ready to start the shot. Does it really work???? How long has everyone been taking it? Thanks, I am hopeful. ftballmom

You might want to look through previous posts or go to the files section of the group and look at the " xolair success stories " file. I have been on it since september 2003. There was nothing then at all on the web about it because it had just become available a month earler. Does it work? YES! Guest guest
I can only tell you that everybody feared for my life before I started and after my 6th go round I am not 100 per cent but now I have some good days despite still living in the apartment where a cat was (16500 ige to cats). I could not talk beforehand and there are still times I can not but I am no longer as panciky. uca79iii <uca79iii@...> wrote: --- In , " ftballmom777 " <ftballmom777@...> wrote: > > I am so happy to find this group! Guest guest
Thanks so much! I was wondering where to look, so you have pointed me to the right direction. I hope that one day my success story can be under this heading. I do know one thing, sometimes surfing the net can make one leary of about any kind of treatment. Mention of the word " cancer link " is very intimidating! Yet, with all the medicine I am on now...what medicine is perfect? Again, thank you! Guest guest
Jane, Thank you for the quick reply and encouragement. My symptons get worse during the cold winter months, and in the springtime. Last year was the first time that I felt hopeless and scared. My precious doctor tried all that he knew. I started the nebulizer, while still on zrytec, advair, albuterol, predinsone. He tested me and although I cannot remember my ige blood level, he told me it was off the charts and he called the company to find out if it would work and the exact dosage. Then of course I tried something else when I read of the caner scare. I knew that my immune system was shot. I teach in an elementary school, so you can imagine the exposure. At any rate, when I went about 3 weeks ago I told him what I had been doing. He thought the reason he had not seen me was the shot, and found out otherwise when my chart was pulled. I took in my supplements and it appears as though his only problem with them was the " animal organs " which there is not a whole lot of good things known... " could you better because your body has been on a type of prednisone for 8 months? " Well, I stopped them, and here I am. Like always! So, I told him that two more rounds of prednisone would most likely convince me. How scary it is to not be able to breathe! So that is pretty much my story. Looks like I will be calling him Monday! Again, thanks! Blessings, ftballmom777 > > > > I am so happy to find this group! I was told I need to start xolair > > last March after incontrollable asthma and a blood test. Guest guest
Yes I do think this drug works. I do not receive the drug I administer the drug. I have seen and heard from our patients how much better their lives are since starting Xolair. Less steroids, ER visits, decrease meds, less abluterol MDI/Nebulzier use. Now they are a little more physical playing sports exercise with out having or having less asthma symptoms. It is a joy just to listen to their stories, and most of all our patients are a big part of my life they are a part of my family. I love every signal one of them. Guest guest
I am still new at the " posting " aspect and who this was directed to, but if pondfish lady is asking me why I quit the vitamins...I only quit the supplements that were animal organs. There was a real concern by my doctor about the validity and information known about the organs. The rest I still take, but he recommends xolair for me. I will be talking to him this week about setting up the appointment, amd cross referencing the current vitamins and minerals. thank you. > > > If you were 99% better, why did you quit taking the vitamins, etc.? > > If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude > greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in > peace.
