Guest guest
i haven't been keeping up lately - how much xolair were you on and what were you trying to increase too?? if its above your rec. dose for IgE, the dr is right, medicare might reject it - but i'd think there's no harm in trying?? maybe with the right supporting data??? i hope the extra QVAR will help you through your flares. heather royalashtonvp <royalashtonvp@...> wrote: My allergist said no to my request for a xolair increase because: (1) Medicare would probably not pay for something that is not officially recommended by Xolair and (2) There are some unknowns about xolair since it hasn't been used very long. He prescribed another inhaled steroid (QVAR) to be added to my regular Pulmicort dose when I have asthma flares. Hopefully, this will help. Anything will be better than the prednisone. Guest guest
We've been adding extra inhaled steroids to my regimen in order to try to avoid pred as well. This is a new thing, and so far I think it's working. Guest guest
personally, i'm a big fan of increasing the inhaled steroids - its saved my butt from prednisone many times! i've heard there's only so much your body can absorb (of the inhaled steroids) but i've surpassed that dose and still had positive benefits - so i don't really believe that one! heather pred-free since july 05 !!! pyle456 <coachmac@...> wrote: We've been adding extra inhaled steroids to my regimen in order to try to avoid pred as well. Guest guest
I have to agree with your doctor about the unknowns for the drug but it is possible to get an approval from Genetech if your doctor is willing to contact them. My doctors office contacted them and received approval to increase my dose by 75mg per month. royalashtonvp <royalashtonvp@...> wrote: My allergist said no to my request for a xolair increase because: (1) Medicare would probably not pay for something that is not officially recommended by Xolair and (2) There are some unknowns about xolair since it hasn't been used very long. Guest guest
I am hearing that next year there will be a 75 mg vial introduced but my doctor was not sure when it would be out. It's a shame we can't all receive our shots the same day because right now we have to throw out 75 mg twice a month and that could help someone. It is such a waste of possible benefit to someone else. Anything will be better than > the prednisone. > Hi my name Jo Ann I work for an allergist. We currently have 67 patients on Xolair. We have been administrating this drug since 2003. As far as I know we do have a patient that her dose based on the dose guide is 150 mg once a month. We called her pharmacy to find out if we could increase the dose of her Xolair due to increase asthma sx post 3 weeks of Xolair. We did get the approval and now she comes in every 2 weeks. I know MC will pay for the increase as long as your doctor explains why he would like to increase your dose. If your dose is off the dose guide and he just started you at 375mg then have him calculate your dose based on the formula(.016X kg X IgE divided by 2 this will equal your dose every two weeks. We currently have 3 patients on 600mg every 2 weeks responding very well.MC will pay for the drug as long as your provider buys the drug then bill MC.Good luck it worth a try. Guest guest
Jo Ann: You answered my question about the doses. I didn't know anyone took 600 mg at one time! Makes my 150 once a month seem small! But it is helping. Glad to have you on board.
