Guest guest
My husband and I were wanting to think about having children toward the end of the year. Does anyone know if Xolair is safe during pregnancy? The nurse at the pharmacy told me that most people quit taking it during pregnancy and soo they don't really know but when they tried it in animals it didnt affect the unborn baby. I'm just curious because I've lost 4 babies and I don't know that I want to take a chance, BUT I am going to need to be able to breathe during pregnancy as well. Guest guest
I have adult onset asthma. NO ONE in my family has it. I have three children; none of them have it either. --- In , Carol Corley <floridabouvs@...> wrote: > > I'm not sure about Xolair and pregnancy, but are you sure you want to take the chance to pass on asthma to your child? > Carol > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Carol, asthma is not necessarily genetic, mine is adult-onset asthma. Also, I have allergic asthma so a child of mine could or could not have become asthmatic. And, a child of someone who does not have asthma, could get asthma. There is really no way of telling. So, no, I guess I am not concerned about passing on asthma to my child if that were to happen. I am concerned about birth defects and other issues that could be caused by Xolair. That is really where my question is coming from. Addy, thank you for your reply. I have an appointment with my pulmologist on Friday. His nurse practitioner is totally against it and then my allergy doctor is ok with it. He said said that Xolair is a category B drug and no birth deffects have been reported, but also no studies have been done (that would be unethical). However, they have a registry for those that are pregnant to follow them through the pregnancy and see how things are going. He also agrees with you... being pregnant and having a severe asthma attack while pregnant, would be really bad and could cause pre-mature birth. He also said that Advair and Albuterol are actually a C category drug and pregnant asthmatic people often still take those. So, my dilema lies in the fact that there really is not much out there. That's why I was hoping for some reassurance or feedback from those of you that have experienced this already. Theresa, how did the appointment go? Everything ok? Did they tell you to contiue on Xolair or stop? Thanks for all the replies. They are appreciated! And, please understand that this is really tough subject for me...
