I've healed my dog's scrapes and wounds successfully by keeping them clean

initially with a mild soap and warm water, and then rinsing them 2x daily

with hydrogen peroxide, and using nelson's homeopathic

ointments/creams--hypericum, and calendula, or home made variety with herbes

infused in olive oil w/beeswax to make a salve. They've healed beautifully.

We haven't had to deal with any infection or abscess though. I would

probably not hesitate to use a topical antibiotic additionally if I needed

to combat an infection. My dog has been bit on his big floppy ears several

times, and when every thing was healed there was lumpy scar tissue that our

vet suggested we massage with a lubricant or without (like vit. e), whatever

would be tolerated. It did reduce the tissue and all the fur grew back

fine.

If you do find you need an antibiotic, there is one called Fungisan that is

sold for animals.

It looks/smells like water, and it's ok for them to lick. Works in ears, for

ringworm,

for pretty much anything. Good stuff to keep around, just in case.

If you bandage it, be sure it's dry under the bandage, or you can get a

fungal infection, which is what I did to me once! That's when I discovered

Fungisan, which worked great to get rid of it.
