Hi ,

I, too have an electric oven, and what I do is, I warm up the oven for just a

tiny bit, then turn it off, and turn the oven light on, and that seems to do the

trick for me:

to figure out where to put them for the fermentation to happen. the main one i'm

concerned about is the yogurt-the teacher mentioned putting it in the oven

w/pilot lite, but i have an electric oven.

keeping the jar on the top of the stove.

wondering if i just leave them out if they will ferment on their own?

thanks rosa, i'll try that next time. i was getting confused after i got home

by reading online about this narrow temperature range required and realizing i

had no way of doing anything that precise.

Another thing to put in your bag of tricks concerning keeping your yoghurt at

the right temperature. We used a styrofoam minnow bucket. filled it with water

at the right temperature. Set it in the sink, put the jar of yoghurtdown into

the water, letting the excess water run over. Then put on the lid, again

displacing excess water. We left this sit overnight and had yoghurt in the

morning.

1st time making yogurt

i attended a fermentation class today, coming home w/lots of jars and trying

to figure out where to put them for the fermentation to happen. the main one i'm

concerned about is the yogurt-the teacher mentioned putting it in the oven

w/pilot lite, but i have an electric oven.

so far the best i've come up with is setting my oven as low as possible and

keeping the jar on the top of the stove.

i'm wondering how other folks do this?

also came home with a couple of fermented sodas (made with whey), and am

wondering if i just leave them out if they will ferment on their own?

thanks susan

I do it the same way except I do not turn the oven light on. I preheat the oven

to the lowest setting for a few minutes, put the future yogurt mixture in the

oven and turn it off. It will be finished in the morning.
