1st time making yogurt

i attended a fermentation class today, coming home w/lots of jars and trying to

figure out where to put them for the fermentation to happen. the main one i'm

concerned about is the yogurt-the teacher mentioned putting it in the oven

w/pilot lite, but i have an electric oven.

so far the best i've come up with is setting my oven as low as possible and

keeping the jar on the top of the stove.

i'm wondering how other folks do this?

also came home with a couple of fermented sodas (made with whey), and am

wondering if i just leave them out if they will ferment on their own?
