Guest guest
Ginger Beer Plant and water kefir grains are very different cultures. Though they could be used interchangeably, they are not the same. They each have *very* distinctive tastes, they ferment at different speeds, and there is a significant size difference between the two. They're both symbiotic cultures of yeast and bacteria, and they somewhat resemble each other... in the same way that milk kefir grains somewhat resemble water kefir grains. Any recipe that calls for yeast, or calls for mixing ginger, water and sugar and waiting till it bubbles is not a Ginger Beer Plant. You can no more " make " a Ginger Beer Plant than you can " make " a kefir grain or kombucha mother. There is a group for Ginger Beer Plant: GingerBeerPlant/ - . > > > From: <edurand@...> > Subject: Re: Re: food processing license? > > Date: Tuesday, January 5, 2010, 11:19 PM > > Â > > I know this subject is closed but after studying their website I see what Marilyn means when she says, " They sell the same cultures I do but much more expanded " . I see they list water kefir grains and ginger beer plant as two different things. I would like to buy a ginger beer plant but not from these people. Can anyone advise me of a good place to order from or is there perhaps someone in the group who could sell me a ginger beer plant? I will pay all costs. BTW after my appeal to this group, I obtained kefir grains from Lilian who lives in a village close to mine in South Africa. It is progeny of grains she obtained from Marilyn and they are providing me with wonderful kefir. Thanks to who passed my request on to Lilian. >
Guest guest
Somebody asked me about this and where to find it, has anybody fermented with this? or know how I can obtain " ginger beer plant " ? Although there is a way of making ginger beer the way you described, there is indeed such a thing as a " ginger beer plant " , GBP is a live symbiotic culture of certain yeast and bacteria, and comes in the form of gelatinous granules, similar to water kefir. I will keep looking.
Guest guest
Yes, there are ginger beer grains that look a little like water kefir grains. I bought mine on a website online that sells yogurt starters and other fermented food related stuff. It grows very fast and requires care like water kefir grains do. I am a little too lazy for that. There is also a list where people might want to share with you. Millie
