Guest guest
Hi Mang - that reminds me of my old days in the steel industry when we spoke of high manganese steels we produced. Alas, I digress. My pulm. doc had weaned me off prednisone (which had followed high doses of antibiotics to try to rid me of sinus infections), but my primary care doc decided to put me back on prednisone because it seemed like every time I came off prednisone prior to then, I had problems (which included my nasty reaction to my first series of xolair shots). I protested, but he said as long as I'm taking less than 10 mg per day, I shouldn't experience the side effects that larger doses of prednisone cause. He put me on 8 mg per day, and I'm doing fine - and the next two series of xolair shots were problem free except for the headache that starts about 24 hrs after the shots and lasts only one day. Well, of course, there's the reduced libido, but at 72, I don't mind backing down to only once a day. And, so it seems, I'm a predinsone junkie. At least, it's cheap. I'd love to take a taper dose of Prednisone because it works so fast to make me breath so good when I'm slipping down into the pits. But I have a few questions ... What side effects have any of you experienced with an occasional taper dose of Prednisone? If I take Prednisone will the insurance company take that to mean the Xolair isn't working and decide not to cover it in the future?
Guest guest
Oh, you mean that work-hardening steel stuff, Terry. Yeah, hung around there a bit but the company shut down so some folks over in China could make a living and feed their kids. No sweat here ... I needed to move on to greener (as in greenbacks) pastures from a dying industry. Anyway, I used the manganese handle to sign up for something at years ago and found out it was still active when I went to sign up for this group. I remain totally baffled about my meds. In the past 24 hours my peak flow went from 20% below best to the best and I feel like I've never had a problem breathing all of a sudden. Maybe it's because the Doc just temporarily bumped me up to 50/500 Advair from 50/250. I really do respond to steroids. But maybe it's just because the cold weather is starting to break. Some day maybe I'll figure this puzzle out. One thing I do know is that when I'm on oral Predinsone I feel like I breath like I did at 17 years old and have the energy to match. In really short order I start thinking all that labored breathing had to be just something in my head ... sort of like when you wake up from a dream and come to realize it wasn't for real. Since going on Xolair I usually feel normal but sometimes something besides allergies nails me and that's when I start wishing I had a big fat dose of Prednisone .... but I'm really cautious about it especially since I have glaucoma. I doubt 8 mg a day would do the trick here. I'm thinking more like 20 or 30 mg. --- In , " Terry " <onabeach@...> wrote: > > Hi Mang - that reminds me of my old days in the steel industry when we spoke of high manganese steels we produced.
