Guest guest
I had my second shot last week. Both times, I have slept like the dead for most of 48 hours after. It is bad enough that I am moving my shots so that I have child care and things arranged for me to be out of it. Anyone else sleeping? I believe that you are the first to ask this question on this board. Do ask your doctor what he/she thinks. Guest guest
Well I would like to be! Unfortunately I work two jobs so I feel like I am on autopilot for nearly a week afterwards. I just want to sleep! Jeannie --- schoolontherock <fromthebirdhouse@...> wrote: > I had my second shot last week. Both times, I have > slept like the > dead for most of 48 hours after. Guest guest
I had terrible fatigue when starting Xolair, but it coincided with not needing pred any more and we determined that I had adrenal fatigue. Even tho I had always tapered my pred doses, apparently taking one taper per month for about 3 years wore my adrenals down. So when Xolair kicked in and I didn't need another taper, my adrenals had a fit. Generally, I have slept better since starting Xolair. I used to wake up with the sweats at least once a night, and that stopped once I stopped using pred. It was terrible. I would go to sleep with a towel between me and the sheets so that I could wake up with the towel wet, and not the sheets, and then ditch the towel and go back to sleep on dry sheets. TMI? Guest guest
Well, yes, I also slept a good deal after the first shot(s) (I get two at a time). It seemed possible that it was from sinusitis and allergy attacks from being outside 2 days but, as I believe I said in previous posts, I could sleep for 12, 13, even 15 hours!!!! This has gone on for a week. Maybe weather had something to do with it too. Dunno. My hubby was obviously shocked when I was still groggy in bed at 12:30 pm. If I was working right now it would be tough. Even if I had dragged myself out last week my mind was not all there. Actually, I've read that one of the side effects can be fatigue as well as dizziness. I wonder why? There is an increase in IgE in the blood following the doses but don't know if that relates to fatigue. If there was suddenly a lot of relief from allergies I could understand the " relaxing " effect on the body. But that wasn't really the case for me. I'm not sure why it happened but am currently chalking it up to environmental allergies. This coming Friday, April 6th, I'm supposed to have my second shot (again two at a time - total of 300 mgs). If the extreme sleepiness/fatigue happens again and there's no particularly active sinusitis then I'll be suspicious it's the Xolair. Maybe it just takes getting used to? I'm still in the learning phase! Here are some places where it mentions tiredness as a side effects of Xolair: http://www.xolair.com/patient/important_information.jsp <http://www.xolair.com/patient/important_information.jsp> http://www.webmd.com/content/pages/20/105743.htm?z=1660_05741_4012_rc_03\ #a5 <http://www.webmd.com/content/pages/20/105743.htm?z=1660_05741_4012_rc_0\ 3#a5> On Wikipedia they mention, at the bottom: " Concerns have also been raised about possible induction of Churg-Strauss syndrome, nasal polyps, and adrenal insufficiency.[2] " Adrenal insufficiency could certainly cause fatigue but that can be checked out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omalizumab <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omalizumab> http://www.gene.com/gene/common/inc/pi/xolair.jsp#reactions <http://www.gene.com/gene/common/inc/pi/xolair.jsp#reactions> It's important to remember that patients were only followed for a year during the trials so no one really knows what all side effects there are, especially since it's been tried on a relatively small number of patients. I'll bet someone else out there has had sleepiness as a side effect too. How long did it last? Best of luck! > I had my second shot last week. Guest guest
That's interesting--about the pred and adrenal fatigue. I have not taken pred on a regular basis for about 15 years--only bursts two or three times a years when I had sinusitis which led to respiratory infections which led to asthma attacks. But I have felt a little fatigue the day I've gotten my shot and some fatigue the next day. This last shot, however, I really felt the fatigue the next day. I had agreed to substitute at a school and went, but was very tired all day, and could hardly wait to get home a take a nap. I don't sleep straight through--but I have noticed the fatigue. Don't think mine is adrenal fatigue, though. I made sure I got to bed early enough the night before, so it wasn't from lack of sleep. It really felt more like the time I was extremely anemic--I made myself keep going but my body really objected--my tail was dragging! Guest guest
I also have adrenal fatigue (=no adrenal cortisol production) from taking longterm steroids but have not had an increase in body fatigue since I've been on Xolair [cortisol is the form of steroid produced by our adrenal glands]. I've been successfully tapering my steroids for the first time in 5 years but my docs have me doing it very, very, very gradually. In 6 months, I'm down to just 50% of what I was taking before Xolair and it will take another 6 months to be totally off steroids. The idea is to allow my adrenals to gradually start functioning again as my steroid dose slowly drops without putting an abrupt large demand on them until they're back to normal function. Hopefully everyone who is decreasing longterm daily steroids because of successful Xolair treatment is doing a slow taper under their doctors' direction. If your steroid dose drops too quickly, you are at risk for an adrenal crisis (a very serious condition) if you have an infection or injury. Fran > > > > I had my second shot last week. Guest guest
Hi All, I would be SO happy if I too could totally be off of steroids in 6 months, but my lungs go nuts everytime my pulmo tries to lower my dose. As a result, I have been at 15mg every other day (my pulmo says it makes my adrenals kick in faster) since November 1. I can tell (or rather my lungs can) when the next AM is a 'pred day', as I usually am doing nebs almost constantly the night before, and don't sleep as a result, as you can imagine it's quite fun. I am down from 90mg 3x/day of Prednisone in July '05, but it certainly has been a looooooooooong road. My pulmo tells me I have incredible patience (my excuse for NOT having patience for anything/anyone else - I use all that I have up on prednisone ), and that with my lungs I just have to understand that its not a straight line of progress that we're dodging bullets too (4 hospital admissions for asthma in the past 2 yrs.), but that I am defintely making progress. This has defintely been a long, frustrating process, I am now 20 years old, have been on pred since I was 18, and at this rate will be on it until I am 25(my pulmo won't even talk about when I'm going to be totally off steroids). I haven't been admitted for asthma in over a year, so it's working! As you can probably tell, I HATE prednisone - but it keeps me breathing and has saved my life numerous times, so I love it too - oh the joys. I defintely have had side-effects from Evil Candy, but none from Xolair (which I began in May '05). Anyway, my pred ranting is over. Thanks, Meagan > > > > > > I had my second shot last week. Guest guest
You know what? I thought my asthma was bad until I read everyone elses experiences on here. I had it tough but I was determined not to let it slow me down too much. But compared to some of you I had it pretty good. I was only on 5 meds.. now down to 2 (not including Xolair), I could function for most of the year with my rescue inhaler nearby. Spring was the time when I stayed inside and avoided any kind of activity. That was the time the doc would try to get me on prednisone. I had a Doc many years ago tell me how bad that stuff was when I had other problems I was dealing with. After that I tried my best to stay off the " evil candy " unless I had no choice. But after signing up on this board I realize that it could have been a lot worse! Jeannie
Guest guest
, to be sure, I wasn't complaining that it would take another 6 months to taper all the way down! Quite the opposite, I'm thrilled and can hardly believe that I'm down to 50% of what I was on and only hope the rest of the taper will be as successful. I do really feel for you - your story is similar to what mine was before I got up to an adequate dose of daily steroids. I wish you all the luck in the world in managing your asthma. Guest guest
Fran, I know that you were not complaining about your prednisone. I was just having a 'tired of pred' meltdown, sorry if anyone took it as anything else. Meagan > > > > > > > > > > I had my second shot last week. I had it in the morning before work and could barely stay awake at my new job. It lasted all day. Then that evening I woke up with a wicked sore throat. It made it difficult to sleep. The sore throat was gone by mid morning. On Saturday night I was helping my husband make Easter Pie and I was feeling dizzy for a few hours. I get my shot at the doctors office and I take it once a month. I am looking forward to the Xolair helping my Asthma, alllergies and constant wheeze. > > > > > > >
