Guest guest
I'm new to this group and had my first xolair shot today. I'm having mild itching all over my body since the shot. I've previously had an anaphylactic reaction during my allergy skin testing requiring an ER visit, but this does not seem the same. With the allergy testing, I had IMMEDIATE severe asthma symptoms and SOB and turned bright red all over with intense itching. My allergist pretreated me with Prednisone 30 mg and an antihistamine before the xolair today just to be extra cautious. I was observed for an hour and felt a little itching, but thought it might just be me being anxious about the shot. Now here at home, I'm definitely itchy, but no other symptoms or hives, no breathing problems or anything and it has been a few hours. I'm reluctant to call the doc because I'm scared he won't let my try any more xolair and I've been so excited about trying it to relieve my asthma/allergy problems. Minor itching for awhile I can put up with but I don't want to ignore something serious. I feel absolutely fine except for the itching. Of note, I had terrible itching after taking morphine and fentanyl with my C-sections and also itched with the post-op Vicodin, but can tolerate them with some Benadryl onboard and I know that is not an unusual side effect for narcotics. However, I don't have any experience with xolair. Has anyone else had itching like this and is it serious or a minor problem? I figure all of you have had a lot of experience with xolair, more so than my doctor, who only has about 10 patients taking it. Thanks,
Guest guest
Are you itching all over or just at the injection site? I always itch at the site and it can last for a few days. I don't know about anybody else. Jeannie --- shuttsgirl <shuttsgirl@...> wrote: > I'm new to this group and had my first xolair shot > today. Guest guest
I'm itching all over, although it is mild. Still no other symtoms at all and I feel fine except for the itching. I appreciate any thoughts anyone has. > > > I'm new to this group and had my first xolair shot > > today. Guest guest
Please, please, please do not be " afraid to tell my doctor " about the itching. A small proportion of folks are truly allergic to Xolair and you may be one of them. If so and you are having systemic rather than local reactions, as you are doing, you certainly could progress unpredictably to a more serious reaction. Only you and your doctor TOGETHER can safely decide how to manage your itching right now and your future Xolair treatment. PLEASE CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!! Wishing you only the best, Fran --- In , " shuttsgirl " <shuttsgirl@...> wrote: > > I'm new to this group and had my first xolair shot today. Guest guest
I've read that itching can be a side effect of Xolair - do you have a rash? I'm not a doctor or a nurse - this is just based on what I guess I would do given the circumstances. I really recommend checking w/a professional, though. If you choose not to tell your doctor then you need to keep an epi pen close by (really should anyway) and have someone close to you at all times who knows your condition and could get immediate help for you. Possibly just taking an antihistamine would help. My impression is that if generalized itching goes no farther than it's not life threatening. However, swelling around the face or throat or tightness in the chest is SERIOUS and needs EMERGENCY care. It's always possible that the itching might go on to anaphylaxis and then again it might not. Xolair is totally different and unrelated to the substances give in allergy testing. Again, my humble thought is that perhaps your body somehow thinks it " sees " something based on your previous experience and is reacting. I just had my second shot about 90 minutes ago. (Actually it's the second series because I self inject two shots of 150 mgs each) I'm suspicious that it might be contributing to sinusitis and headache (known side effects) but am not certain and it's not at all life threatening. Good luck with Xolair. I'm looking forward to relief one of these days too and can certainly sympathize. > > > > > I'm new to this group and had my first xolair shot > > > today. Guest guest
That's great - I'm glad the itching stopped and especially relieved to know that you let your doctor know about it and that you'll see him to discuss the plan further.
