Guest guest
Has anyone had an experience with the DRX9000 spinal decompression machine therapy machine? It is very expensive therapy and the doctor told me not to expect insurance to cover it. He said the basic cost for the inital round of approximately 20 sessons would be 4000.00. He actually told me not to expect to be able to work at a new job I'm starting on monday, which would take me from sitting for 8+ hours to working on my feet as a dialysis tech in a renal center. I've been walking around today so depressed at the whole situation I feel like i'm hitting bottom and don't know what to do. I need to make a living, but don't know how to at this point. I am so depressed.. geez what am I going to do? Thanks for any info against or for this therapy. The neurologist wants me to see a surgeon and I am scared of that. My pain is getting worse, I find myself thinking about taking the vicodan that the doctor prescribed daily and that makes me loopy and quezy.. Thanks Francine Francinelevine@... Guest guest
Hi Francine, I went through that kind of therapy, tho it might have had another name. It is more or less computerized traction. I can't say how it was for me for the fact that they made the mistake to inflate the bladder in the low back while doing the decompression and I didn't get any one to come in until I was in tears. But if your situation is not like mine it probably would do some good. I have heard of it working for some. My disc was torn I had 3 tears 3/4 inches long each, so mine was beyond traction. You might go some research on the internet. Also, there are some decent traction beds that you can buy I have one it is about 500.00 traction bed and might be something that would still help you. You would use it before going to bed so when you rest during the night it makes a difference. You DO NOT use a lot of pressure.. only like 10 lbs of pressure to begin with....and stay strapped in it on the floor for about 10 minutes and go up to 15 minutes over time. Also, I have heard that the inverter beds work for some decompression. I surely don't claim to have the answer, but just perhaps it will work for you with out not having to give up your job. Guest guest
Hi Francine, I have doing the disc decompression therapy since Feb. and ended it last week. 48 sessions is what they recommended and my Federal Blue Cross paid for all but my $200 deductible for the year. It was over $6000. Along with the decompression therapy on the machine they also done ultrasound therapy, cold laser and electro-stim and ice plus an adjustment by the chiropractor each time. I went 3 times per week. I had been off work for 2 weeks before I started the therapy but was able to start back after the first week of therapy. It really really helped me to maintain and keep working. I was not pain free but at least working. At some point, maybe about the middle, the therapy had me in great shape, sometimes not having any pain at all but if I ever did anything extra like too much standing or shopping or working a little in the yard or something crazy that I knew I shouldn't be doing in the first place, then it would start hurting again. So I guess it's very worth the trouble but the benefit of the therapy peaked about half way and them my problem started going downhill again. But still it was helping to keep me at work standing on my feet all day. I went on vacation the last of may for 2 weeks and missed therapy the entire time and was back to square one. I have even contemplated going without my surgery if I could maintain long enough but with the pain returning so badly, I called the surgeon and told him to go ahead and schedule. My problem is severe and been bad for awhile but I would suggest that you go as long as you possibly can without surgery and if this therapy will help you like it did me, then go for it. Good Luck! I'd be interested in knowing if it works for you as well. DRX9000 spinal decompression machine Has anyone had an experience with the DRX9000 spinal decompression machine therapy machine? Guest guest
Francine If you have nothing to fall back on ans can work do it. As far as that machine.......I have heard that the prototypes failed miserably and now quack chiropractors are supporting it as a missed opportunity for treatment. I know that as of 2007 the food and drug administration never approved the machine for treatment. Check out this story before you do anything else. I refused to do the treament myself.... http://www.rebuildyourback.com/category/drx-9000/ I would check into a neurosurgeon that has a strong track record and will allow you at least 3 patients to contact about their treatments. Guest guest
I talked to one person who developed new, additional back problems & pain as a result of this treatment. She felt she was harmed by the treatment. See for more info on the machine, results, etc at http://www.transgallaxys.com/~kanzlerzwo/showtopic.php?threadid=2883 To me it seems like a lot of money for questionable results. Good luck ,

She felt she was harmed by the treatment. As a nurse who works with workers comp claims, I can tell you that none of the guidelines we use to approve treatments approve of this one.
