Guest guest
Hi C-Toma's are NOT malignant... please don't worry about that. The surgery can last anywhere from 1.5 hours to 5 or more hours, with probably about 4 hours being the usual amount of time it takes in the OR to remove it. Recovery, is quite rapid for such major surgery, when you consider how close to the brain they are. Depending on what is done, there will be varying amounts of discomfort, the worse being the first day post op... it gets better after that, and they usually give you pain meds to deal with it. Typically you need from 1 to 2 weeks to recover. Hope this helps, there are a lot of resources on the site, and lots of stories... Some are scary because some of the participants here have had a lot more trouble than most. Glad you found us, and I hope this helps. Guest guest
Hello, I have to agree with Lynn, cholesteatoma is not cancerous. I would be pressing you doctor for more information about calling it malignant. Maybe even look for a new doctor? It can destroy the tissue in the ear and eat away the hearing bones, and can get much worse if left untreated, but cancerous?? I don't feel that it is. Recovery is fairly quick and when you are able to go back to work depends on what you do for a living and how you feel. Average seems to be about 2 weeks. Please look at the links section and browse through the archives, they contain a wealth of information.
