Hi ,

I'm glad to hear you are up and moving around! I don't know the restrictions on

a lumbar fusion since my fusion was a cervical. I had a car accident 5 weeks

after my fusion and though OH NO it's going to mess up my fusion, it didn't!! So

I think fusions with hardware are a little tougher than the average person

thinks it is.

I have never had a lumbar fusion, but I have had two lumbar laminectomies. I

wore gowns and dresses for three weeks to keep some of the problems you are

talking about from happening. I would try to do what the doctor says and use the

back brace when you are suppose to, but I don't think forgetting it once will do

that much harm, but you may want to check with your doctor. I know how painful

lumbar surgery is and I wish you luck and hope the pain subsides quickly!

Take care,

Barb

December. I was in the hospital for 5 days and was sent home with a back brace,

a thing to pick stuff up off the ground and a weight limit of 5 lbs. I'm not to

bend over, twist or reach for anything. I can sit in a chair with a high back

and arms for 20 minutes at a time or rest in bed with a pillow between my legs

and behind my back. I'm to do several small walks during a day which they

modified to one walk around a mall a day since I live in MN where there is snow

and do not have a lot of space in the home to move about.

afterwords, they told me to just take pain meds before I go. What I am worried

about is that I'm doing well enough that I have to remind myself to ease myself

down into a chair, not to twist, or bend or reach for anything. And I often

find I've sat for longer than 20 minutes. I am used to pain being my guide and

I am not on much for pain relief so I dont think its masking it too much (50mg

of Tramadol 3x daily). Am I going to be ok slipping up? I'm trying my best but

when I accedently overdo it or forget to put my back brace back on before using

the bathroom (it traps my pants and I cant pull them down unless I remove it) or

forget something I worry that my fuse wont take properly. Please tell me there

is a little leeway in this. I really want to get this right.
