Guest guest
Sam do what I did. I wrote a very short message telling the doctor what my specific problem was and I didn't mention any other problems. But I described my injury to a tee. I wanted the doctor to focus on my problem not past problems or things that had no bearing on my case. Janice Re: Virginia Mason Spine Clinic I trust most doctors about as far as I can throw them. I also have no qualms about telling a stupid doctor he/she is a stupid doctor. I chose Virginia Mason because, after interviewing them, they seem to be very familiar with my specific type of injury. ly, I am pretty fed up with being referred to the wrong orthopods with the wrong information, and I'm not going to put up with it again. I have a specific type of trauma injury, however the referring clinic sends me out with such bizarre diagnoses as " non-specific back pain " (I " do " have specific pain), or " multiple compression fractures " (I only have " one " from a 1987 equestrian accident), or a bunch of other incorrect, stupid, and/or moronic " diagnoses " which have absolutely NOTHING to do with me or my specific trauma injury. And let me tell you that is is soooooooo infuriating to go to a referral appointment, trying to talk about my specific trauma injury, and then get totally shut down as tho I don't know what I'm talking about, or I'm delusional, or I'm lying and just trying to get attention. Guest guest
The right thing would be for you to stop the conversation and say to the doctor " I have some issues I need to talk to you about so could I have your undivided attention for a few minutes " ? If that doesn't work walk out and finda new doctor. Janice Re: Virginia Mason Spine Clinic I do that, plus I bring visual aids. I do try to cover all the bases, but if the doctor refuses to listen to what I have to say, or look at anything I bring to the appointment, I'm s.o.l. My only recourse would be to walk out of the appointment and possibly file a complaint. Sam (fractured L5 transverse process with ligament damage) > > > > You need to be very careful here. Guest guest
I agree with Janice that when it comes to medical problems you have had for a while and need continuing care for. If you are educated about your problem and need a new doctor you need to interview them as if they are a potential employee. Dont let them ask you anything. Make it clear it is an interview to see if your philosophy's match. If they dont agree with you, argue with you, try and interupt multiple times or you do not like the answerd to their questions let them know they are not going to work out, ask if they know a doctor who will and then walk out the door with out any emotional display. I have yet to find a doctor who did not respond well to this aproach, though I have had a few that did not pass the interview. Guest guest
The relationship between a patient and a doctor is almost sacred. After all you are putting your life in this persons hand you have to have faith that he/she is going to do the right thing all the time and everything he/she does is in your best interest. If you don't know them and trust them completely why go to this person at all. I have several health issues and I have several doctors. In December I listened to a doctor I didn't know very well but he worked in a world famous hospital so why should I worry. Well he caused me to have my first heart attack. He took me off a medication that should have never have happened. Thank God the heart attack was mild it was my first one and hopefully my last one. I went against everything I have preached to others for years. I will never make that mistake again. Please if you only do one thing this year check out and interview every doctor you see. Make sure you check state medical boards to see if he/she has had any complaints filed against them. You cannot be to careful when it comes to your life. Guest guest
Hi Sam, Not saying this guy is the one for you. Just that he has earned my trust and respect. The last time i went to him i was in so much pain i just wanted him to operate thinking it could not get any worse. He went over all my tests and explained the high risk of the surgery i would need and told me if it were him he would not have the surgery right now. He talked me out of a surgery i am sure a lot of dr's would have just done and hoped for the best.So if you want to look him up he works out of Valley Medical Center in Renton washington. his name is Dr H . If you go on the website of Valley medical center there is a spot for look up a dr type in his name and it will bring up some of his info. Virginia Mason is a great hospital to. They fixed a shattered foot for me in high school and saved my life when i was in college. I hope you find a dr that can help you and ease your pain. Best of luck and remember you are not alone. Take care!  From: Sam . <k9gang@...> Subject: Re: Virginia Mason Spine Clinic spinal problems Date: Friday, February 4, 2011, 12:52 PM  Tell me about Dr . Location? Clinic? Guest guest
congratulations Sam! whatever works. If you don't fight for yourself no one else will. Re: Re: Virginia Mason Spine Clinic Congratulations Sam I hope it all works out for you. Janice Re: Virginia Mason Spine Clinic I got some good news yesterday. Apparently all my whining and concern about continuously not being referred using my actual trauma injury info has worked. Yesterday the referral people in my clinic faxed my actual trauma injury info to the Virginia Mason Spine clinic in Seattle. <big cheesy grin> Hopefully now I can get this 'thing' looked at and addressed. But I'm not going to go out and polish up my motorcycle just yet, because I don't want to jinx anything. Guest guest
I always leave any mri with the cd in hand to prevent this type of porblem ---------- Sent from AT & T's Wireless network using Mobile Email - Re: Virginia Mason Spine Clinic Well, I ended up finally getting imaging done 3 weeks after it was ordered. Why so long? It was ordered by my doc in Seattle and imaging was done at a hospital more local to me. However, I guess the folks up here needed to first learn how to read. Ok, so the imaging was finally done and both the reports AND copies of imaging were supposed to be sent to the Seattle doc. I requested in person and doctor requested over the phone. I filled out paperwork to get the imaging sent. 3 weeks later only the reports had been sent. So, we both re-requested imaging be sent. I did this by phone and in person. Later was told imging was sent on April 18, but it still hasn't shown up. Today I re-re-requested imaging to be sent. I wonder if it will ever show up Perhaps the people in charge of sending imaging haven't learned how to do that yet. arg I have a doc ready, willing, and able to read my imaging so we can proceed with whatever treatment I may need. This is pretty frustrating. On May 29, 2011, it will be exactly 24 months since I aws injured. Word of advice: never get a back injury in Bellingham, Wa. Guest guest
I had an MRI a few months ago and it was on a disc that I took with me along with the repor5t I picked them both up the second day after it was done.I watched it befroe the doctor ever saw it. Janice Re: Virginia Mason Spine Clinic Yes, I usually bring my imaging with me to appointments, however I had the latest imaging done after my doc appointment, which was 108 miles south of me in Seattle. If the dufuses up here can't get it in gear, I will go purchase my own copies and send them myself. Sam :-o > > > > > > I have an appointment at this clinic on March 3rd with Dr Friedman! Guest guest
Why would they be reluctant to release your records to you. It is a law also they cannot hold your records once you sign the release they have to send them to you. I am glad that you finally got what belonged to you all along. Janice Re: Virginia Mason Spine Clinic And after I sent this to the group, I got a phone call from my Seattle doc's office. After some more " nudging " , the images were finally sent electronically to them. FINALLY! Monday my doc and I will at long last be able to discuss my boo-boo's and if/how/when I can get 'fixed'...
