I think that you just did to much as long as you haven't fallen or

twisted a lot should not be permanent. Your muscles also are involved and must

heal too so if you do to much it is going to hurt those muscles. Don't be to

hard on yourself just take a couple of days doing nothing but resting. I had to

go back to work as a waitress when I was 8 days out of surgery with my second

surgery I had to feed my kids so I hid my condition and went to work I was very

careful and I didn't hurt myself but I would never reccommend it to anyone else.

Really overdid it this weekend.

Ok...this weekend I really really overdid it with walking. Somehow when I have

my daughter with us I am in a lot more pain...I am guessing because she makes us

stop a lot. And then I " popped in " JoAnn's to get some yarn to keep me busy on a

project and I am really hurting now....I really hope I havent done anything to

set myself back:( I'm really not good at taking it easy...This is my 4th week

post op from my spine fusion.

Like Janice said, it's not that you did anything directly bad to your surgery

site, it's just that  you did too much...like you said. Remember that just

about every cell in your body is working on over time trying to heal that

fusion, and deposit all that calcium and minerals to fuse the bone on top of it.

You're body is on over drive. ALL of  your energies need to be focused on that

right now. Anything you do on top of it is going to wear you out and cause pain

and discomfort. This is MAJOR surgery. I liken it to open heart surgery, and in

many, many ways, it's a longer and harder recovery than open heart. Don't be

hard on yourself on days that you do too much, they'll happen. But be very aware

of what you are doing, and try to eliminate all unnecessary activities.

Take it easy!!!!

Honey, we have ALL done it. I know it's hard to stay down for so long. Believe

me! I had a seven month recovery before I could go back to work in the OR. I

went nuts!!! I can't count how many times I did too much! I don't sit well...I

like to be busy. I'd try to do something small like load the dishwasher and I'd

end up in excruciating pain afterwards!!!!

I had 3 small children to feed with no help from anyone. My mother watched

the kids while I was in the hospital but the day I got out seh left and

wouldnt' help me out so I had to take care of them. I actually healed very

Thats absolutly amazing! I hope that I eventually do that well. So far I still

get the same pain that I had before surgery when walking or standing for too

long. But it has only been 3.5 weeks. Hoping that by 6wks post-op I'll start

to see improvment.

Uggg....I still hate washing my hands. There is no way to do so without leaning

forward a bit and reaching from side to side. I can turn my whole body for the

arm reach but I still need to lean forward a tad.

I have been in a position where my body is slightly bent forward and I had

to walk that way. When it got really bad I was leaned forward a lot. I had

to turn my head from one side to the other in order to see who I was talking

to. That was a never touching a ruptured disc. Once it was fixed I would be

ok. Now days I may get bent a little if I over do things but if I take a

break and rest I can stand normally. I have been 40 years this month

handling back problems serious problems but here I am 40 years later my 3

daughters are raised and I am still doing very well for someone who has been

through 5 back injuries and surgeries. Everyone try to have a positive

attitude laugh when you can and dont' cry to much it hurts.

If your still getting the same pain at the same levels as before surgery

something may not be right abter 3.5 weeks you should be a lot better maybe

not all the way but you should be able to have time everyday without pain

like in hte morning when you first get up or after resting in the middle of

the day.I dont' want to gauge everyone by myself but I have had 5 surgeries

all success's and I always felt much better within the first week then the

other 5 weeks I spent healing the site where I was cut. HAs anyone else

every had all the pain linger 3.5 weeks after surgery? I would like to hear

from people.

I dont have pain every minute of the day...and in the morning I usually feel

good till I go do my walk or such. but I still get the same pain I used to when

standing too long or walking for a while. The thing is...before surgery if I

went through a period where I did very little pain would be better in the

morning and if sitting instead of standing or walking or doing housework or

excersizing. Somehow I gotta think this isnt quite right because the doctors

told me to expect to be on narcotics for 6 weeks and I was able to get off them

at 2...and there has been improvment since then but its not better then before

surgery just yet. Though I used to take a bunch of Ibuprofen that I'm not right

now....but then I was more active. hard to judge. In anycase I am guessing

that they wouldnt tell me that I was going to be on drugs for 6 weeks if it was

suposed to feel that much better by now on average.

Some how brushing my teeth is better...I can reach with one hand and the brush

extends out just enough that I dont have to bend forward for anything but

turning the water on. And I can be upright as I brush...which I know not

everyone else does...my hubby leans forward the whole time he brushes.

Many years ago my doctor told me something that didn't register in my hard

head for a long time. If it hurts DON'T do it. It is great advice and

everyone should follow it. If you feel the pain coming on then just stop

what your doing and either sit down or lay down until it goes away then

dont' do it again because it will only cause you pain.
