Guest guest
Doug, I'm glad that you are able to get off Advair and your voice is improving so you can continue to share your gift! My voice was so hoarse for the last year and a half. My husband called me Peppermint Patti. Then I would tell him " Hey Chuck wanna play football " ? My Pulm said it was probally due to the Advair. I'm sure my constant use of the Nebs contributed some too. I'm still on all of my meds cause I'm just starting Xolair. So I try to make sure to rinse my mouth, gargle or brush my teeth after using any of my inhaled meds. Guest guest
Does advair have steroids in it? I had the same problem with anything that had steroids. Messed up my voice. I sounded like a little girl. Since I work in radio and do voicework too I quit taking anything with steroids. I think I had mentioned this before. My dr. would get upset with me but unless I was nearly to the point of hospitalization I would refuse to take them. --- uca79iii <bme1979@...> wrote: > As most of you know, I am a church music minister > and my singing voice > is absolutely crucial. > > For many years, I have had a raspy sound to my > singing voice. Guest guest
Yes, it has 50 MG's of salmeterol in it. Any time I was in the hospital for my asthma, (comes in inhaled and liquid form), I would have an IV of that horrible " liquid candy " , which I would get weened off and then put on prednisone. --- Gail s <gaildaniels@...> wrote: > Does advair have steroids in it? Guest guest
It does have 50 mg salmeterol but that's a bronchodilator, not a steroid. However the other component of Advair is fluticasone, which is a steroid. The amount of steroid in each dose is the first number of the dose designation, so Advair 500/50 has 500 mcg (micrograms, not milligrams) of fluticasone, Advair 250/50 has 250 mcg fluticasone and so forth. Hoarseness is a known side effect of both bronchodilators and inhaled steroids. Guest guest
Great news Doug. My doc just lowered mine from 500 to 250 and so far no problems. At this time next year I may try 125 and someday hopefully zero. uca79iii <bme1979@...> wrote: As most of you know, I am a church music minister and my singing voice is absolutely crucial. For many years, I have had a raspy sound to my singing voice. After having major cervical fusion surgeries in my neck since 1998 (more than likely caused by many years on Prednisone), my voice seemed to be getting worse. I traveled to a singing/vocal specialist in Nashville TN, 2 weeks ago to find out just what the problem is. I was told that my neck surgeries were NOT the problem but Advair could be a major cause of my problem. The doctor told me that if all possible to quit taking it. This seems logical since my voice started this raspiness just about the time I started taking Advair. My allergist told me that I could try getting off of it and so far, I have not needed it at all. After a little vocal therapy and NO Advrair, my voice tone is improving Once again, thanks to Xolair, one more asthma medicine seems to be history Doug Group founder co-owner-moderator --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible " new car " smell?
