Guest guest
Addy, and I have been discussing having a FAQ for new members for quite sometime now. Addy did all the hard work by writing it and I posted it in the files section of group and also configured it into an email sent to new members as they join. Things that people have been asking quite a bit about are in this FAQ, such as: 1. Will the shots hurt? Where are they given? 2. How long does it take to work? 3. What are the side effects? 4. How does it work? How do they determine what dose I will get? 5. Will I be able to stop taking my other medications? 6. Can I give it to myself at home? How do I store it? 7. How much does it cost? What are the average co-pays? 8. I've heard Xolair causes cancer. Is this true? 9. Is Xolair safe for children? 10. In the meantime, how do I deal with prednisone? 11. What kind of support can I get from this group? 12. Why is this group moderated? Who are the moderators? This file is in Microsoft Word format. If you need another format or do not have a word processor, email me at uca79@... and I will email you a regular copy. Thanks for being a part of our little bit of cyberspace Doug - Group Founder

I will try to answer your questions as best as i can. keep in mind I am not a doctor I work for one. my answers are based on what we do in our clinic may not be the same at other clinics. 1 ? from our patients the injection does not hurt it may burn or sting some. we give it Sub q behind the arm in the fatty part. 2 ? for our patient they have notice improvment by their 2-3 treatment at every 2 weeks. 3 ? None of our patients have reported any major side effects, we do have a couple of patients that say they develope a headach after their treatment which is controled by tylenol, motrin what ever they take for pain. 4 ? the dose is based on your total Ige and your weight. 5 ? our patient continue taking all their medication as directed my our provider. some of our patients are now taking less medications. 6 ? yes you may administer it to your self we do not recommend that nor do we have any of our patients self adminstering the drug. we want to make sure the drug is mixed properly.some insurance only cover the drug for self administration. at this point we have a patients where her insurance only covers the drug if she self administer the patient is afraid to inject her self and her husband can not stand the sight of a needle. at this point we do not know what we will do. we as the provider can adminster the drug but not charge for the administration, which I feel it is unfair on the patient side. the drug is stored in the frige and not mixed until ready to administer. 7 ? the drug may run up to + or- $500.00 per injection. Different insurance differant copays 8 ? read the insert or log into the xolair site. 9 ? Xolair is indicated for children 12 and over. we do have children on xolair under the age of 12. 10 ? your provider will deterime when at what dose you should be on.I can say our patient are on less to no predisone last being in 05. 11 ? the support you can get from this group is the sotries these patient on xolair know what you as an asthmatic is going thru.this typeof support is pricless.
