I haven't updated in awhile so figure its time. I had a one level ACDF

with titanium steel plate and cadaver bone on 11/29/10, six months ago

due to a herniated disc at C5/6 after a car accident. Pre op, for a

year I was in great agony with the only relief from pain after I downed

2 vicodin and that only temporarily. None of the conservative

treatments worked so I opted for surgery and I haven't regretted the

decision at all.

Today, at 6 months post op, I am as good as new. I can do everything I

did before the surgery. The only minor issue I experience is when I am

carrying 25+ lbs in either hand. After 5 minutes of carrying the

weight, I get a slight numbness in my shoulder but as soon as I sit the

weight down the feeling recedes and there are no lasting effects. I am

on no pain medication other than an occasional tylenol for muscle

tightness if I am driving in traffic for a long stretch, but I don't

feel that is connected with my surgery. All arm numbness, shooting

pains and extreme pain in my neck muscles is gone. I have excellent

quality of life and have been able to go back to work. I'm even working

in a physical field without any worries, lifting 20-30 lbs on a regular

basis and up to 50 occasionally.
