Guest guest
Good to hear your are doing well. I am 8 weeks post double fusion and unfortunately still in Aspen collar after my son tried to tickle me and ended up tackling me instead so I have 6 more weeks of no work or driving. One of the things I found that has helped with the sweating/dirt issue with the Aspen is I have cut up one of my husband's old t-shirts and placed it in between my skin and the pads on the collar. This also makes it a little more comfortable against the skin. I found that I was breaking out in a rash under the collar and it was irritating the scar. I agree that sleeping in the Aspen is a challenge. I have been lucky enough that my Dr has allowed me to sleep in th esoft collar since the day I left the hospital. I think it took me about 2 weeks to figure out the right number of pillows. Best of luck and wishing you continued progress, Debra Beverley <wargames06@...> wrote: Well, it's been a week post-op with mixed feelings. My blood pressure went sky high Tuesday, mostly due to weaning off the Vicodin/Flexeril cocktail. Things look fine, structurally. Still a lot of muscle tightness, but that's to be expected. No tingling or pain in the left arm. It does feel weak, though, so I'm expecting a short PT modality, probably home exercise or something. They should give patients TWO Aspen cervical collars because I sweated out the first one in less than 2 days. Ended up throwing on a soft collar and having the hard collar washed. I'm not one for a lot of hair on my head and face, so I finally shaved yesterday. Numbness is starting to go away under my chin because I could feel the whiskers coming in. AAAAGH!!! Looking forward to the next Dr. appt so I can get outta this collar! It makes sleeping a challenge!
Guest guest
Thanks, Debra! That didn't even dawn on me to to the t-shirt deal! Nothing like jersey sheets when sleeping... why not for a collar? LOL Well, I'm getting a little concerned today because my 10-month old almost fell... and instinctively, I caught him before he fell hard. However, my left arm is hurting now. Sure hope this goes away before the Dr says something. Re: Checking In (as promised) Good to hear your are doing well. Guest guest
Hi yall, putting dedorant inside the chin cup helps with the sour smell from sweating, I tried it and never got the odor again, and my chin stayed dry! Guest guest
This is so great! I have the t-shirt covering the pads right now. Let me put some scentless deodorant on it. Not sure if I could deal with my sports scent that long. LOL Re: Checking In (as promised) Good to hear your are doing well. Guest guest
I cut up my husband's t-shirts, too. To help with the odor, I would spray my collar with fabreeze while I showered. It really helped. By the way, the cut up tees are nice rags when you're done! > > Well, it's been a week post-op with mixed feelings.
