Guest guest
" Coping with Prednisone " is a very good book. It was written by a woman with a chronic illness w hich required high doses of pred and her doctor sister. It gives a lot of good info, as well as ideas and recipes for how to fight those cravings and not gaino much weight. Addy Group co-owner Just finished losing the 10 pounds I put on in October from taking pred for 5 weeks. Oh well, at least it was only 10 lbs. > > *snip!* > > I am really tired of > > taking pulse doses > > of Prednisone to provide temporary relief and afterwards > > having all the > > crap come back within a week. Guest guest
I agree with Addy about this book. recommended it to me and I borrowed it from the library last year (and just re-borrowed it again last week). It does discuss taper/withdrawal symptoms as well as ideas for exercise and weight control. I do have to say though, that I haven't exercised any of the dietary guidelines that are recommeded! I am down to 10mg pred one day and alternating with 7.5mg pred. I am not happy with the " Cushoid " appearance I present and it will take a couple of months after being off prednisone to lose some of the facial and abdominal bloating (just in time for another round of prednisone!!!) Guest guest
I must say that this board helps me to cope with all of this--asthma, itching, wheezing, rales, and evil candy. I am down to 6.5 which means my body is starting to produce but I am so not the same person I used to be and no doctor listens to me. Thank all of you so much. pjboucher2001 <pjboucher2001@...> wrote: I agree with Addy about this book. recommended it to me and I borrowed it from the library last year (and just re-borrowed it again last week). Guest guest
I am ordering this book asap. In a couple of weeks I will be at the Mayo Clinic. They say along with every other doctor that it is imperative that I lower and then ultimately get off of evil candy. My surgery may not be healing, I have cushings, diabetes, etc. Even the " prednisone skin. " And I look like Hades--truly--with the moon face and fatigue. I am hoping to keep my appointment at Mayo in 2 weeks with one of their 2 PGA endocrinologists who specializes in Cushings. Please keep your fingers crossed for me. As I said in an earlier post, I have been able to come down 10 per cent over the past week and my body already feels better. My lungs however may be a different story. Thank all of you so much for your kindness. Guest guest
Hi Leigh, The book won't help you much with getting off. It does confirm everything you already know probably about the evil candy. I have been trying for years to get off. I do look like Hades too. Like the belly and the stretch marks? Those are great. The only thing that works is to go VERY slowly. I'm talking dropping 1 mg a month once you are below 15 mg. That is basically the only way my lungs don't pitch a fit. I'm on 10 mg now and to be honest, not feeling amazing. Do let us know if they have any magic solutions. I am now being followed by one of the world's asthma gurus and, well, I'm still on pred despite him saying it is killing me slowly etc... He seems to say this takes time. Guest guest
I went from 20 to 18 over 3 days. Would you believe just 2 mg decrease dropped my bp? This is kinda serious....so I am going back to 19. FOR A MONTH. I will let you know what DR. Carpenter says. Take good care.
