Guest guest
I don't know if its normal, but when I had my C5/6 ACDF (November 29, 2010) the only nausea I experienced was in the very beginning from the pain (wk 1-3 post op) and occasional from the pain meds. My surgeon said that the swelling and inflammation from surgery would be completely gone by 4-6 weeks post op, however that was only a 1 level ACDF so your situation might be different. and the gang -- jacdobe@... Guest guest
It sounds like your ears might be involved. If you have an ear infection or pressure on the ear drum you will feel sick and maybe dizzy at times. Call your doctor and ask that he/she see you and check out your symptoms. Janice Headache and stomach aches? I am 8 weeks post surgery on an anterior spinal fusion of C-5,6,7. My neck feels pretty good except I occasionally get a headache. Nothing horrible but there. The other strange thing is that I feel sick to my stomach (i.e. like I am going to puke) almost all the time. I am pretty sure that comes from my incision point and the swelling pushing on my esophagus. Does anyone know if this is normal? Guest guest
Ed, I’ve had ant. cervical fusions, in fact just had C7- T1 2 wks ago. With all my ant cerv surgeries I’ve never had nausea and don’t think it could be normal at 8wks post op. HA’s are often assoc with cervical probs as you most likely know, whether you should still be having them at 8wke post op I don’t know but as you may well still have some movement I wouldn’t be surprised. However, I’d definitely go to your surgeon about the near constant nausea. That seems odd so far out from surgery. Good Luck! Guest guest
I had a laminectomy of the T1 & T2 vertebre and a intra-dural tumor removal done on Nov. 2010. I still have pain in my back and I am still on a lot of meds (baclofen, klonopin, catapres, multivitamin etc.) I have constant stomache upset and intestinal issues. I would say it's pretty normal. Back surgery is just not an easy recovery. They told me 8 months for limited pain and full feeling in legs and 18 months for full (or what will be the final point) of my recovery). Guest guest
I had a discectomy that reherniated at L5/S1. When my back cramps bad, I get really nauseous from the pain like migraine nausea. It would be helpful to ur doctor to be very specific- create a headache journal. Note in a book when pain starts, ifbit is same or diff than b4 surgery, what u did immed b4 or earlier in day, including rx timing, where exactly it hurts, whether u have other migraine or cluster headache symptoms. These could be triggered by meds (lortab reliably gives me a bad headache), swelling, nerve compression. Also try if u haven't, and note whether ice or heat help, whether anti inflam work as this could be diagnostic. And note ur temp daily in case u have an infection. Good luck and be sure ( I've learned from experience) to write down all doses of meds (bring bottles if u run out of time), write down all ur questions, and if an answer/theory doesn't fit to u or u want more info, it's ok to assert urself and ask. I had a bad whiplash and tore most ligaments on back of neck andvhad headaches for years, they can be awful and debilitating and I would highly encourage u to get to doc asap. They will have more answers. Hope this helps
Guest guest
I talked to my physical therepist about both issues. Both are very common for this surgery. Both are related to muscles in the front of the neck near the incision site. She did some horrendously painful massage on the back of my neck at the base of the skull then moved under my jaw bone. She really dug into the area where the muscles attach to my jaw and collar bone. It was the worst experience I have had. It really hurt and I had to stop her a couple of time because I couldn't take it. She then moved my esophagus back and forth to loosen scar tissue. When she was done she iced down everything for about ten minutes. The headache is still there but greatly reduced and I can really feel a difference in the throat. I can swallow much better and I am not nauseous at all. She has recommended at least two more sessions and while I not looking forward to the sessions, if I feel better it is worth it. BTW this morning I can hardly touch my neck it is so sore! Ed > > I am 8 weeks post surgery on an anterior spinal fusion of C-5,6,7. My neck feels pretty good except I occasionally get a headache.
