Guest guest
> > Hi , > > What rare disorder is asthma a symptom of? > > Thanks for sharing! > 1) Churg-Strauss (an auto-immune disorder of small and medium vascular systems), 2) eosinophilic leukemia or 3) 'idiopathic' hypereosinophilic syndrome. These are illnesses where my bone marrow produces too many Eosinophils ( a type of white blood cell). You should have less than 4% of your total blood count be these types of cells. A slightly elevated EOS level could be because of parasites or an allergy but once you get past a certain threshold they begin to look into other factors. Sudden onset of asthma seems to be a symptom of at least 2 of the 3. The EOS cells like to go out and party and attack organs and nerve systems. They also have to find EOS cells in at least two organ systems. (ie: skin, heart, digestive track, lungs (hence the asthma), nerves, kidneys.....and others....) Good news is that a patient can be on Xolair and have one of these disorders. I know at least one other person, on this board, who is in a similiar situation to mine and has used Xolair effectively to help with the asthma/allergies. email me more offline if you want/need more info. karen
Guest guest
There are 4 people with Churg-Strauss syndrome and 3 with eosinophilic gastroenteritis that I know of personally and they are all doing very well. People/children with severe food allergies, skin diseases and disorders are on Xolair also and doing phenomenally well! --------------------------------- Sucker-punch spam with award-winning protection.
