Iron mordant will turn anything brown/gray/black. When fabrics were dyed in cast iron pots, the colors all came out dark. If you use a glass or enamel pan and a bright mordant like chrome or copper, they will be brighter.

Newbie here. ;-) But I gotta' say "HI" to a fellow Botanial Elements member.

I only experimented briefly w/ natural dyes and didn't have great success. Most of my attempts just turned brown. I ended up using clays for color.
