I am assuming he meant fresh each night...or if you wake up in the middle of the night to change it. at least that is how I interpret this.

Suzi

I want to try it too. I've had terrible gum problems and am diligent about taking care of it but it still persists. I assume the oak bark is White Oak Bark?

Guess I'm really confused now. When you say "fresh each night" are you saying you try to keep it in place during the day as well? And what form is it? Powder?

From what I gather you are supposed to put it on your gums at night and let it stay there all night. I'm not sure how you accomplish this unless you just smear it on thick and hope it stays put. If you wake up during the night and need more you can "refresh" it. I guess you rinse it off in the morning and continue the night regimen for 6 nights. The woman in the story apparently didn't wait until nighttime. She just put it on her gums as soon as she could. So I assume it should be left on around 8 hrs. I believe she also said she went to the health food store and got the oak powder. LOL! I feel like I'm taking a "pop quiz" on Suzi's story. Anyone else's interpretation is welcome;-)!

Mountain Rose Herbs has white oak powder and white oak bark. I don't see how I can keep slices of wood on my gums throughout the night, so I'm opting for the powder. I don't need to choke on a slice of bark during the night coupled with possible splinters;-).

This from a Dr. website:

Herbal Tooth & Gum Powder: White Oak Bark, Prickly Ash, Bayberry bark, Horsetail, Slippery Elm bark, Cloves, Peppermint and Stevia. This formula is used to help strengthen the gums (bleeding and pyorrhea-type infections of the gums), and assist in tightening loose teeth. This type of tooth powder will brighten tooth luster and make for a healthier mouth. For severe cases place this powder combination between the lips and gums (upper and lower) around entire tooth area and leave on all night, six nights a week until improvement is evident. Available in powder.

or how about putting it in after dinner while you're doing whatever... and rinse it out before you go to bed???? that way you're not worried about it in your mouth....

I'd have a hard time putting it on during the day since I'm constantly eating or drinking something. I'd be washing it right down my throat after a half hour! I have tried putting herbal poultice-type powders on my gums at night before but by morning it's gone. (I think I drool a lot in my sleep). Oh, well....after I get the oak powder I'll figure out something. I wonder if it would be ok to mix it with a little slippery elm. That's stuff sticks like glue! Except sometimes it hardens and you're never supposed to use any herbs that harden on your mucous membranes. Hmm....just got a stream of consciousness going on here and have no idea where I'm going with it;-).

What is meant by "put it in fresh periodically" when it said in the previous sentence to put it in at night?

I would really like to try this as I am being told I have gum disease, but I have good teeth.

"I have tried putting herbal poultice-type powders on my gums at night before but by morning it's gone. "

What if you used a bite guard? I wear one because I clench my teeth at night and it is causing bone loss. The periodontist made me a custom fit bite guard, but I'm thinking you could probably just use the rubbery ones like the kids wear for soccer and football. You boil it and then put it in your mouth to mold to the shape of your teeth and mouth size.

I'm thinking if you put the powder on your gums and then put the bite guard in it might keep it in there for a bit longer. I doubt if anything is going to stay in there all night, but who knows. I'll go in search of some today and try it tonight and will get back to you tomorrow.
