I can't remember where I heard this (maybe a tv show like on PBS or

had the greater the ratio of attraction, or something of that nature. Lots of

variables in a study like that, though, just thinking about diet,

cross-culture, etc. I did a BRIEF Google search but didn't find anything about

it. Who

I have NEVER been overweight and have always been a mosquitoes magnet.... I

live on a farm, so spend lots of time outdoors. I do not wear perfume and

prefer plain clothing.

It is something to do with the amount of carbon dioxide exhaled as I recall,

plus a deficiency of certain B vitamins.... I do not remember if it is B1, B3

or B6.

Shari,

Try eating garlic and brewers yeast... more raw diet... also.. make some catnip oil or tincture it and add it to water as a spray... Catnip seems to repel.

Anything she can ingest to help stave off the blood suckers? I saw the spray on solution in the files, but I'm thinking she is going to need something more.

I think there are instructions in the Files section here, Shari. And I think it's as easy as sticking your material into a jar, covering it with Everclear (or vodka or brandy) and letting it sit until it's tinctured.

And is there a book that might help me learn to make tintures? I've never done this, but this one sound like something I could handle!

We use catnip tincture as a spray every year when we

do our annual family gathering camping trip. However,

for some reason, it seems to attract gnats while

repelling mosquitos.

Whoa, well guess I'll pass on the tincture part. I'm in recovery and wouldn't think of purchasing any of those ingriedents. Just reading the word "Everclear" gave me chills and brought back some very interesting moments in my life!!! Let's see, Alaska, pipeline, 1975, ah..........never mind. :-))

It's not so much the tincture as it is going to the liquor store to buy it, handling it, and then having left overs.

Will probably try to infused oil instead.

Thank you for all your help. You folks are so knowledgeable and comfortable to talk to. I really appreciate your circle very much.

I am probably going to sound like a broken record <G> but when I lived in a mosquito-ridden area, I used to dab on tea tree oil the same as you would dab on perfume - behind ears, at wrists and crook of elbows. I never got bitten after that, unless an ankle was exposed. We used to say that you could tell when the neighbors were swatting mosquitoes because you could hear their shotguns go off!

=======================

Hi Shari,

Unfortunately not. Some constituents are only extracted using alcohol,

some better extracted using water and some you can use ACV on. A good

combo is 55% EtOH, 35% water and 10% ACV. This will extract most of

anything out of the plant. Course, I have found that the best mosquito

deterrent is a very clean toxin free body. Eat only raw, no cooked. I

used to be a mosquito diner until I did some serious cleansing in

Arizona. I have yet to get bitten and it has been about 5 years now. Get

the toxins out of the blood and you just don't taste good to them anymore.

on most yes... hard roots, bark will take alcohol to pull out the properties... if you have an old blender you could try using acv and blending it all together to help. Alcohol pulls more out than acv... so let the acv mix sit longer too.

Thanks, Rogene for the tip! Lately the little critters have been

active outside my cabin, with little helping - I even put on

Citronella Oil and they sat on my toe and started stabbing! I know

with wasps around at picnic time, we would put a pop bottle with a

little pop in the bottle a little bit away from us, and they would

swarm into it and die.

Love, love, love,

Sunny :)
