Guest guest
So what is a homeopathic remedy? I thought that is what diet, herbs & food was. Nope...homeopathy was actually once considered a very legitimate form of medicine until the AMA cracked down on it as quackery in the mid-1990's. It is based on the theory that "like cures like". A Dr. Hahnemann discovered that substances that would produce toxic results in a healthy individual, would actually cure that same illness when given in very minute doses. For instance, belladonna would ordinarily cause vomiting in a healthy person, but when very very small amounts of belladonna were given to a person suffering from nausea and vomiting, it would cure it. Homeopathic remedies differ from conventional medicine (such as antibiotics) insofar as the remedy prescribed has to be VERY specific. You don't just take any old remedy for a cough and chills. The doctor has to ask a series of questions to pinpoint the exact remedy...is the cough and chills worse at night? Worse in a warm room? Have lots of mucus or it is a dry cough? Etc. etc. It's a very exact science. I've used homeopath on my animals with great success. The homeopathic remedies are usually small white pills that dissolve in the mouth. But, certain other substances can negate their effectiveness (mint toothpaste, coffee, chocolate, etc. ), so you have to watch when you take them and make sure your mouth is clean. Guest guest
Was pricey and saw no results so can't endorse this form of treatment for me. For others it can be their answer. A few years ago I had a friend who suddenly, at age 40, began to have grand mal seizures once a month in his sleep. He was totally freaked, but wanted to do something naturally, so we found a homeopathic physician. (Yes...expensive). The doctor whipped up a formula and gave it to him with instructions. A few months later my friend was still frightened by the memory of those seizures (he had about 3 of them), and decided to go the medical route. So he went to a doctor and went on pharmaceuticals. But one day he said to me that he noticed something interesting....the three months he had been taking what the homeopath gave him he didn't have any seizures (and he had been having them once a month). But he had a shaky belief system and thought he'd better go to a "real" doctor, even though the homeopathic remedy apparently was working. Guest guest
Forgot to add Homeopathic medicine is a system of primary health care. What makes naturopathy different is the principals on which the practice is based. HD are (usually) licensed professionals with 4 years of post-graduate doctoral education in medical diagnosis and treatment. Naturopaths are not satisfied with the absence of disease, but encourage people to optimize their health. This often requires additional commitment to changing lifestyles and self-responsibility for health. Suzi What is a weed? Guest guest
Homeopathy was around for hundreds of years before the AMA. Guest guest
My experience was a little different. When I got Lyme disease the first time I went to an allopathic doctor and took three months worth of doxycycline before it appeared to disappear. Even then, my left ankle was weak forever after that. Then, several years later, it spontaneously recurred and I went to a homeopath. With the correct remedy, it took the same three months or so for the disease to work its way through my system, but once it did, it was gone. And my ankle was strong again. Sharyn From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of MorningGlory113@... In the case of Lyme's I went for the sure thing and just took lots of acidophilus. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Guest guest
I don't think antibiotics *cure* anything. They just suppress the symptoms. In this case, for several years. Hi Sharyn, I'm not sure of my stance on antibiotics. I rarely, rarely take them (in fact Lyme's was about the only time in 15 years), but I do believe they can kill bacterial infections. Most medications just surpress symptoms but I still have some faith in antibiotics for serious infections. I use them as an absolute last resort. Because I have a tendency towards yeast infections I was advised by a doctor not to take them unless absolutely necessary so, if possible. For the most part, I've avoided them for about 40 years. When I had Lyme's (I didn't know it was Lymes) I went to a doctor because I was so sick with aches, pains, high fever and throwing up, that I didn't care if I lived or died and nothing else I took was helping. He spotted a very very small spot on my foot (A red splotch the size of a quarter! I hardly saw it!), and said he was going to do a Lyme's test "just in case". In fact, when I told him I hadn't been to a doctor he 15 years (and had no insurance), he laughed and said..."well, I'm just going to give you the doxycycline for free so you don't have to buy it". I just don't know any natural healers that have a proven track record with Lyme's. I'm curious to know how others on this list feel about taking antibiotics. Are there cases when you would take them? Thanks! Gloria
Guest guest
ANtibiotics build up in your system and then they don't work. Suzi...I think that might be one of the keys. When you rarely take them they *do* work. I know people who take them a couple times a year and they just get sick over and over. I will try everything else first and everything else usually works, but every 10 years (or longer) I turn to an antibiotic and they seem to kick in pretty fast. I don't take antibiotics lightly. Guest guest
Yes. I had the bite. At first I thought it was a spider bite, but then my left ankle started to hurt and swell and turn black & blue. I don't think antibiotics *cure* anything. They just suppress the symptoms. In this case, for several years. But once it recurred and I used homeopathy, the disease itself disappeared. (And don't ask me how I know that....I can just *feel* the difference in the way my body treated the symptoms/disease.<BG>) Sharyn From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of MorningGlory113@...Was it diagnosed right away? Usually if you can catch it within 3 weeks of getting bitten, a month of doxicycline will do the trick. The first time I just made it under the wire...I had it about 2 1/2 weeks. The second time I KNEW what it was (but the doctor didn't) and demanded the meds before the blood test results came through. I have never had any recurring symptoms or problems since. Both times I took doxcycline for a month, but all visible symptoms went away within 2 weeks. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Guest guest
In extremmeeee dire need when nothing else has worked.and getting to a critical point... (hasn't happened yet). ANtibiotics build up in your system and then they don't work... best to take super or complete tonic, echinacea plus (w/cayenne) and garlic cloves ... the tonic every couple hours... cloves up to 12 a day and ech only 1 or twice a day for a week and then off it only a week..
