DE.... Dimateous earth (food grade)... can be used as a dusting... (not the pool stuff)

Maybe sneak a bit of garlic clove bits in his food or in some water and syringe it down him...

I'll have to think more on this.

Does anyone have a really super-dooper effective natural treatment for fleas? I just went to the vet to the tune of $115 for my cat. I had no choice. I have one cat that is severely allergic to fleas (t's unbelievable). For 2 weeks he has been hiding in corners and closets, urinating all over the house and himself, and chewing himself raw and bloody. Last year he went down to skin and bones from anemia caused by the flea bites. It's a nightmare. Last year I resorted to having the vet put Frontline on him and, in all honesty, it probably saved his life. This year I found myself in the exact same boat and requested Advantage. I read a holistic vet book and they said if you MUST resort to meds, Advantage is less toxic than Frontline. She also gave him a B vitamin shot for the anemia (from the

fleas). He's 14 and in no way going to eat raw, so that's out. I have tried garlic, yeast, everything I can think of but nothing helps this guy except flea medication. If anyone has something natural they know really works, I'd love the info so I can give it a shot. Thanks!!!Gloria

OK,

here is what I've come up with...

This is a spray that is sold on the market..Fleas Flee For pets & their bedding Pennyroyal, Cedar & Rosemary ~ Spray Mist in Distilled Water ~ External Use only ~ shake well before using ~ Atomizer Mist ~ use as needed. 4 oz. atomizer spray $7.95 (I caution on the pennyroyal..)

The best defense against fleas seems to be a healthy overall immune system. Keep your cat in top form by feeding her a diet rich in omega-3 and omega-6 oils, including a small amount of brewer’s yeast to meals, and avoiding over-processed foods with by-products.

If your cat already has fleas, bathe her with a mild detergent once a week to remove adult fleas, larvae, and eggs. Groom her with a flea comb between baths. Dip the comb in water after every stroke to drown any fleas you comb out.

2 other sites that are interesting.

Gloria,

fleas:

Haave your tried both the garlic and brewers yeast together? Did google search so here's a head start to any link you want from this page. Sorry about that pricey vet bill, but here's some cheaper remedies I believe. Keep us posted Gloria. Maybe also getting onto a group for cats alternative treatments. Just thoughts here. Poor cat....good mom!

Thanks Carol. I wasn't prepared for $115 but I had no choice. The cat was a mess. Even the vet gasped when she saw him. Once last week he fell straight down from an 8 ft. high shelf and landed on his side (NOT on his feet). When I heard the commotion, I thought he had had a seizure. When it happened again (this time from a 5 ft. surface), I saw that he had been trying to scratch and chew his already raw hind legs and couldn't keep his balance. I thought..."That's IT! He's getting that flea medication NOW". In the holistic vet book they said there are some cases where you might have to resort to a topical flea medication in order to save the cat's life, and this is definitely one of those cases. So they said to use Advantage, as they found it much less harmful. But now that I know the fleas will be gone for a month, I want to start doing some alternatives to hopefully keep it in check. It's VERY hard to disguise anything and get it down him internally. Maybe that flea spray Suzi came across would help.
