Guest guest
Hi Don, Thank for your your explanation. I was always under the impression that standardized was better. My husband thought it meant that the mg were the same in each capsule. The cinnamon is actually for my mom who has diabetes I've been told that cinnamon is good for blood sugar. I got at Walmart because she doesn't want to spend a lot (it's only her health after all....) and Walmart was about half the price and 3 times the mg. Since she's not big a fan to eat that much cinnamon I figured the capsules are the next best thing. Of course I do the same with Cayenne. I like my food spicy but not all the time every day so I take them in capsules too. I eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, no PHO's, no HFCS and very little processed stuff. I grind my own grain and bake my own bread, no white sugarI keep trying to improve my health and have added taking some green tea capsules, Cayenne with garlic capsules, a cranberry tablet (to ward of my occasional bladder infection) and some Blue/Green algae stuff. Any suggestions for improvement (beyond the obvious eat more raw which I keep trying to do but am not always thrilled with) of things I should add to my daily intake or change are more than welcome. It's quite the journey. Thanks again, BarbDon Quai <mysticalherbalist@...> wrote: The cinnamon you bought that was standardized was 350mg of the phytonutrient that was standardized. One nutirent only. The Walmart brand I can't elaborate on. Most likely it was not standardized which is why it was so much cheaper. May I ask why you are taking cinnamon in capsules?-- Peace be with you, Barb.Don "Quai" Eitner__________________________________________________
Guest guest
Barb, Many of us do take sups... I do complete nutrition (in the files), complete tonic, Most of my supplements I make myself... echinacea etc... when I remember I do take CoQ10.. For C I do lemon peels (cut, dried, grind and put in capsule form. I do mostly tinctures. I buy my MSM in bulk and capsulize it myself. You're much better off making your own... buy the herb or herbs in bulk and make your own tinctures or capsules, etc. Much cheaper and much better than what you can buy from alot of these major companies..(like what you find at walmart or walgreens, etc) When I buy something like COQ10... i look for quality. Your med cabinet...we had a discussion awhile back.. a variety of answers... do a search in the mesaage archives "First Aid" or medicine cabinet... Echinacea or astralagus tincture, super or complete tonic, a good first aid salve, cayenne tincture, Inatestinal cleanse #1 and 2 capsules, garlic/mullein oil, tea tree oil, the list can go on and on... depending on what your needs are etc. Suzibarb g <themainers@...> wrote: Not that I'm a Walmart fan at all. In fact anyone who knows me knows that a visit to Walmart makes me downright hostile. I did read the ingredient list for the cinnimon and echinacea that I purchased and I thought it looked comparable to anything I've seen in the health food store. That being said I don't take vitamins like "one a day" but my husband take some type of whole food vitamin he gets at the health food store. My question is this....Doesn't anyone on this list take any type of supplement/herb etc other than just eating whole foods? And if so, what are you taking. What should be in my medicine cabinet? I take powdered Ester-C, B-Complex, a multi called Alive!, Cal-Mags capsules, and occasionally some herbs and other supplements but not on a regular basis, just as needed. Some of us buy our supplements on the internet, as we know the reputable name brands and there are certain sites where we can get them at a much better price. It's quite the journey. > > Thanks again, > > Barb =================================== Hi Barb, For the most part your diet is much better than the average Americans. However, like anything else we humans do, there is always room for improvement. It is a fact that most of us are not thrilled with eating more raw. There are numerous reasons for this. Most all of them are mental and emotional reasons. Some like usage of condiments and stimulating spices actually deaden our taste buds for the more subtle flavors that are found in food. Salt is a big contributor to this as it is very toxic to the body. When we change our beliefs and quit using condiments and spices and such then our taste buds, over a short period, will change back to how they are supposed to be and you will actually find that raw food really tastes great. When you can taste those subtle flavors again you wonder why you ever needed to use spices. Cooked food works the same way. Cooked food does not taste good unless you add spices. The reason here is because you have cooked all the vitamins and minerals out of them so they are tasteless. Hence the need for spices. Of course cooking your food makes it useless to your body nutrient wise. The best advice I can give you is to keep working at it and keep adding in more and more raw living foods into your diet. The more raw you add in slowly the less cooked you are going to eat. The key word here is slowly, otherwise it is quite a shock to the body and you bounce like a yo-yo between cooked and raw. Best is to give it all time for your body to adjust. Just slowly eliminate one cooked food and add in a new raw food. I too love spicey foods, a lot!!! However, I notice that when I eat spicey, whether it be peppers or cayenne, my desire for cooked foods increases as does my desire for sweet sugary foods like chocolate and other stimulating non-raw foods. Therefore, I have chosen to eliminate spices from my diet as I find them to be too enervating and unbalancing. This is what all stimulating foods and drinks do to us, they unbalance us emotionally, as well as, physically. If you wish, there are several very excellent raw food groups where you can get lots of support, help, ideas and testimonials from others who have walked this path. Just let me know and I will be glad to point you in the right direction, as will several on this list. -- Peace be with you, Barb.
