Guest guest
Yes, it's true, Terry. Actually all people should be cautious, but especially those with immune system disorders. The parasite " Toxoplasma gondii " causes toxoplasmosis. Here is a good explanation: http://edcp.org/html/toxoplas.html ----- Original Message ----- From: <terryperrella@...> < > Sent: Thursday, May 31, 2001 5:34 AM Subject: [ ] Cats > I have 2 cats I love to death. Guest guest
Terry, I'm always very careful when I change the kitty box. Before we got our parrot I was afraid of them due to disease's my RD said no problem. Hubby cleans up after the bird because it still scares me even after talking with my RD, Avian Vet and other's who have RA and birds. Wish hubby would let me get another cat. Guest guest
I have heard this too. I think there is truth to it. However, I have had cats for 21 years and I have RA and a kidney transplant. I don't know how long I really have the RA, at least 6 years I think. I have had the kidney transplant 15 years. Before that I was on dialysis for 18 years. I keep my fingers crossed and wash my hands well after taking care of the litter box and after playing with the cats. I also make sure I wash my hands always before I eat. I enjoy my cats, they give me a lot of joy. Enjoy yours. Just take precautions. Sincerely, Colletti Anjillah@... PS If I can help with anything else or want to chat drop me a line. Guest guest
I know about this with cats too.....I used to hire teenagers in neighborhood to do the catbox when I was pregnant. I , too , enjoy my cats and they really do develop lil personality traits all of their own.....my male (9months pure black.....name is 11:59(not quite MIdnight...call him Levy) loves to chase those buzzbuzz balls and retrieve them....if he sees you are getting tired , he takes it into bathtub and plays there with it ..tries to get it into lg plastic cup turned on side (like he's golfing)and then my older mature F cat(she's about 6), Skittles, loves lil rubber lizards...she will retrieve them and loves to think she is quite the hunter........Skittles doesnt survive well w/o me...we found out the hard way...I had to move about 2 yrs ago and couldnt have pets......gave her to my friend...in 30-40 days she almost died from starving herself......got her back ,nursed her thru seizures,etc.....and she has been fine since......if I feel really depressed she always is there to help comfort me......needl;ess to say I have not tried to give her away since......Judy in AZ

Guest guest
Man, you guys are really making me miss my kitty. He got run over 3 year ago. Because of the kids and thier allergies I can't get another one. I really miss him (). We burried him by the lake and planted catnip on his grave. He was so funny. He would give kisses and hugs just like a person and went to the bathroom on the toilet a couple of time. I think he thought he was human. Love cats, > I know about this with cats too.....I used to hire teenagers in neighborhood > to do the catbox when I was pregnant. Guest guest
They wrapped the cat in a towel, much like swaddling a baby snug, but not too tight. They then proceeded to administer something by mouth. Yes, that is one method and can be pretty effective. I have to give my cat so many supplements right now that I no longer bother with the towel thing. I just wedge the dropper between his teeth and squirt. He hates being force-medicated, with or without the towel. He happens to be a somewhat mellow cat so I don't get totally clawed to death. For my others the towel would be a "must". Guest guest
I've been thinking about the discussion that was here a couple days ago about getting things into a cats' mouth. I saw an Animal Planet program a vet taking care of a cat. They wrapped the cat in a towel, much like swaddling a baby snug, but not too tight. They then proceeded to administer something by mouth. The cat seemed quite subdued by the wrapping up in the towel and everyone was protected from the slashing claws! Thought it was pretty cool. Not being a cat person, I found it intriguing.
