Guest guest
I ran across this article and thought you would all enjoy this. This has not been easy for me, especially when living in a Mennonite town where they love their food. It seems every where I go there is food, or there is the wrong kind of food. How on earth do you deal with this? Well, I have come to my own conclusion about how to deal with this situation. For one, I let the ladies of my church know that I will either bring salad or raw veggies, but I am not bringing other foods or I end up not being able to eat. Let people know how you eat and don't be afraid, because most people will be more then happy to do whatever they can to make things enjoyable for you too. I have finally come to the place where I have said "This is the way I am, and this is the way I eat and you don't need to like it or think it's right, but you do need to respect my feelings." I think if you are going to someone else's house, don't freak out about thinking you will be offending people. I don't know if that sounds right, but tell them, don't just go there expecting a salad or something. Let them know how you eat, and I think you shouldn't feel badly about bringing your own food, of course ask first, but don't be afraid to ask "Would you mind if I brought a little something?" It never hurts to ask and I am sure 99% of the time they will say "Sure!" One little tip that I think is good too, is to pack a little dehydrated snack of some kind along with you when you go out, that way you won't be tempted. It's a lot better to eat something of your own, then to be tempted because you want something enjoyable - only to suffer in the end. Avocados are great too! Just pack one a long in your bag when you are going somewhere. I just throw one into the diaper bag, and then at least I know I will be satisfied. Learn to love avocados! One more little point! I think it is good that you set your boundaries with other people. Let them know how you eat and why you eat raw foods, and then stick to your guns and don't worry about it. My dad said to me a while back "If there isn't much there to eat don't worry about it. So you're a bit hungry until you get home, then you can fix yourself something." "Thanks dad! That was good advice!" I hope this is helpful to any of you who are find this troublesome! Suzi What is a weed?
