My mother in law is quite a nervous person. She used to take valium but no longer. However she is on some major drugs for a deteriorating muscle disease. We do not speak of alternative treatments any longer after my father in law exploded and said we were not welcome in the house if we were going to talk about not eating meat and dairy and taking herbs and "weeds" as he says.

Okay, so we don't talk about that but tonight she was telling me how apprehensive she was about an eye procedure she's having tomorrow - catch this - they are INJECTING her eyeball with saline!! Something about equalizing the inside & outside pressure. Now, my question is do you think she could drink St. 's Wort or Kava Kava for some relief from the nervousness?

I know there are some medications that do not mix well with either one of these teas. Any thoughts?

Thanks Suzanne, but what I was wondering is if any of these will interfere or cause problems with all the medications she is taking. I remember St. s Wort or Kava Kava had a warning about mixing it with certain medications and I don't remember which ones they were. Probably anti-depressants I'm thinking.

This is a great list, though. It's a keeper.

Shoot! I doubt if SHE even knows the names of all the drugs she takes. We're pretty sure she is a walking experiment. Twenty years ago when this all started the doctors shook their head and said "we don't know what's wrong with you, but take this and we'll see what happens." And so goes the story of one pill, shot, procedure after another. I know she's on something called Methlytraxate that is pretty nasty, a "vitamin" D that she can only take once a month it's so dangerous, steroids, now they've cut out 3" of her colon.........need I say more?

Guess maybe I'll tell her to drink warm water with lemon! That sounds pretty safe.

I'm going to check out this website anyway to see if anything rings a bell.

Suzanne you are one super "googler" for this group!

This discussion reminds me of something that I did

about 3 weeks ago that made me so angry I was " not fit

for human consumption " for several days.

We were cleaning house, and in our kitchen cabinet was

a plethora of perscriptions from many years ago that I

was perscribed for various stomach problems (before I

learned a more natural way of dealing with these

issues).

On a lark, I went on line to see what these meds were.

There were a couple dozen of them. The majority had

side effects including but not limited to liver

damage, and a great many had warnings not to use with

a great many others that I was perscribed. And the

dosages were of life threatening levels. No wonder I

almost died a couple of times, was hospitalized

several times, had to have surgery, the works.

I was going to sue for malpractice, but being on

MediCal, our rights to were automatically " waived " . At

this point, it would be wasted energy anyway.

Needless to say, I am no fan of perscription meds and

the mindset that goes along with them.

Peace, love, laughter
