An article advertising product but had some good thought provoking comments.

DIS-EASE BEGINS WITH IMPROPER DIGESTION & ELIMINATION ~It seems almost every other network television commercial is for either a pharmaceutical drug or over-the-counter remedy for one sort of digestive or eliminative problem or another - fiber solutions, laxatives, Bean-o, drugs for acid reflux, etc. This speaks to the widespread problems we are currently experiencing with these vital body functionsat a cultural level.Interestingly, many of the commericials in-between are forthe poor quality processed, packaged or fast foods that caused these problems in the first place! I have to laughwhenever I see a commercial advertising tantalizing mega-portions of some kind of digestively nightmarish food - the mere sight of which could induce a belch or two - followed by another commercial for the latest heartburn medication. But poor digestion and

elimination are no laughing matter. In fact, they can be the cause of much more than the acute discomforts and embarassments we readily associate with them. In addition to the more obvious chronic disorderssuch as irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, Crohn's disease and colon cancer, what many people don't realizeis that a weakened, ailing digestive/eliminative system can also be the cause of sinus problems, allergies, arthritis, depression, recurrent colds and flu, headaches, chronic fatigue, and other menacing dis-eases of the body.Holistic health care practitioners believe that optimaldigestion and elimination are key to overall good health.Consider the following collection of quotes from well knownnatural health care advocates: ~ 1 ~ Today, as in no other period in the history of mankind, we have more problems with the intestinal tract -- the colon, the small

intestine, along with the rest of the digestive system, causing a generation of degenerative diseases. We suffer from a multitude of colon and digestive ailments...a direst cause of many of the diseases of mankind.- Stan Malstrom, N.D.~ 2 ~ The colon is a sewage system, but by neglectand abuse it becomes a cesspool. When it is clean and normal we are well and happy; but let it stagnate and it will distill the poisons of decay, fermentation and putrefaction into the blood, poisoning the brain and the nervous system so it will become mentally depressed and irritable; it will poison the lungs so the breath is foul, poison the digestive organs so we are distressed and bloated; and poison the blood so the skin is sallow and unhealthy.- Dr. Hunter~ 3 ~ You've heard the saying, "You're full of it!"I'm here to tell you that you are quite literally, full of "it" and that "it"

is no laughing matter! "It" is the funda-mental reason you do not look and feel wonderful every day as you did at, say, age four -- bright-eyed, sweet breathed, boundlessly energetic and full of life. Clogged and impactedfrom years of improper eating and lifestyle habits, the colon of most civilized Westerners is, as revealed by the astonishingfindings of autopsies, X-rays, surgeries and colonics, themost abused -- and abusing -- organ of the body. The averageperson carries around as much as 10-20 lbs. of uneliminated feces in his bowels.- Jo-Ann Alquist LangsethSpring time is a great time to do a little internal Springcleaning. Hopefully these quotes will inspire you to do just that!

Great post. I am one of those who is trying to turn things around. I have IBS, fibromyalgia and chronic insomnia. I have been a junk food junkie much of my life and now I am paying the price for it. I am hoping that changing my eating habits will start a healing process.

I know I can't expect immediate results, any improvement would be good.

Thanks for the encouragement. I will keep going forward.

Suzi,

Been lovin' all your posts in this direction!!! It is the basis of

heath in TCM. And, is what gives you your post-natal qi(energy).

Pre-natal qi or essence is from genetics and gestational nutrition and

exposures. Once we are born...the most powerful physical actions

towards health are thru digestion, absorption and elimination.

Thank you. As I believe in diet, I also believe in herbs... for me they go hand in hand (at least at this point in my life) But I'm in pretty good shape (I do have some problems but am correcting them)... for many they are not as lucky as me... and I realize that herbs can only do so much if the diet is not good....but if you don't shape up your eating habits it is all just a "delay" so to speak.. the herbs can't do what they really need to do... just band aid it

if the body is getting good nutrition then the herbs can really do their job to there utmost. (MO)

Don't forget that gradual improvement is so hard to

notice unless you are looking for it, 'cause we get

used to feeling better so quickly. Too often I only

realize how good I was doing when I'm doing worse

again. This morning I could almost stand straight

when I got up, whereas three months ago it took 2 or 3

hours to do so -- but I have to consciously look for

that improvement (except when I got up at 3 in the

morning and couldn't do better than 90 degrees)
