Guest guest
INSTANT STRESS RELIEF Whether you work at a job all day long or stay at home raising children, your life is probably filled with stress, tension, headaches, and possibly trouble sleeping at night due to an inability to "unwind". There are ways, however, to relax at the end of the day - or any other time, that don't involve the swallowing of prescription horse sized pills. Herbal remedies are making a strong comeback. After all, years and years ago herbal remedies were all we had to heal ourselves. Once again, people are returning to these natural alternatives. For those who do not mind taking pills or capsules, many herbs can be found in this form. Teas and oils are also available and are very convenient. Best results can be achieved by trying several different remedies and finding a combination right for you. A cup of catnip tea in a lavender oil bath may be just what you need! Always check with your doctor before taking and herbs. REMEDIES: Pills or capsules: 100 milligrams of valerian taken with 45 milligrams of passion flower taken two to three times daily decreases anxiety levels and depression, often associated with stress. Ginkgo taken three times daily relieves tension. This might cause strokes especially if you have high blood pressure. Teas: Make tea with dried skullcap, nerveroot (also known as lady's slipper), catnip, or hops. Dried, crushed leaves should be steeped in boiling water for 10 minutes. Commercial varieties are also available, check your local health food store. Another good stress relieving tea is made from boiling four or five orange leaves in water, add sugar to taste. Finally, although hard to find, fresh yerbabuena leaves steeped in one and a half cups of water for 10 minutes with honey, also make a great stress relieving tea. Aromatherapy: The best known aromatherapuetic herb is lavender. Lavender oil or dried, crushed leaves and flowers; can be added to bath water, sprinkled on pillows or mattresses, simmered, or burned. Lavender oil can also be added to a base oil, such as almond oil, and used as a relaxing massage oil. Never apply pure lavender oil directly to your skin as irritation will occur. Lavadin, a weakened version of lavender works just as well as pure lavender and is much less expensive. Suzi What is a weed?
