Guest guest
Until you commit yourselves to quitting, you don't have a chance.. Sorry, I speak from experience... I agree. And please don't beat yourself up for not having will power, because will power pushing against an addiction makes it worse. Just keep postponing having a cigarette...I'll have it in 10 minutes, then decide well, maybe I'll have it in 15 minutes. I did that and the next thing I knew a week had gone by and I was still postponing it. I'm one of those people who doesn't like being told I can't have something, so I plopped a cigarette right on the table and told myself I could have it later. A year later it still sat there!! You have to get creative with the mind tricks. Gloria
Guest guest
Hi Kit, Hope all is well with you. Only a smoker can understand another smoker. Gosh, if it were that easy we could all be saving our health along with those around us and our pockets. In or about 1999, I quit for three months. I was working an extrememely busy job where I was never still. I went the Zyban route first. That week was sheer hell and figured that it helped you to quit because it would eventually kill you. The side effects were horrendous. It did not take away from the grueling withdrawals though. The following weekend I spent the entire time on the floor in a fetal position feeling like someone was tearing my guts out. Well, I did go a whole 3 months. Gained 16 pounds and on a little tree trunk that is saying alot..lol but lost it within a month on it's own. It took one horrible day for me to run to the convience store to get just ONE. I actually sat in that lot and smoked the entire pack. I started smoking when I was 12. That's kind of a long time ago. I do not boast about it. I am literally ashamed and I have reaped many a trouble from it. I think for me to lock me into a closet and throw away the key would be the best thing. Sure would allow me to vent:) Quitnet is a good site. Been there along with many others but the will has to be there or it is all talk. For the ones that have never touched a cigarette, I truly do commend you. I pray that I will be able to quit before it quits me. Anyway hope you are all well and those who are sharing our heat, I do pray you have found your own ways of relief from it. As for Peep...well never ever have I encounted such a stubborn and moody cat as I have him. Must be why I love him so much. Guest guest
Tone I totally understand. As I sit here tpying with a cig in my hand. I have also smoked since I was very young, I think I was about 15 when I started.I have never quit since. I guess I try to compensate by trying to eat healthy etc. It wasn't until I read 's accidental post that it hit me how stupid it is. I just do not know what to do about it now. My sister recently quit after being hypnotized but she gained a ungodly amount of weight - like 50 pounds! Can't go there either. My son even bought me the patches for Christmas but I have heard bad things about them so I use that as a excuse not to put one on. At this point in my life this is my only addiction... I had several but managed to rise above them - not this one though. Can't imagine waking up and not having a cig. Kathy You can only trust those who have a living, vital relationship with JESUS in this hour... and we don't look to them but we only look to JESUS... But we are HIS hands and HIS feet on this earth and the HOLY SPIRIT moves through those who are submitted to HIM and walk IN LOVE! -------Original Message------- From: Tone Date: 08/02/05 18:36:03 health Subject: Re: Re: Was....apologies...now smoking Hi Kit, Hope all is well with you. Guest guest
Toni, :You're right, outside the door doesn't mean anything as you are fooling yourself behind it....yes you have to convince your inner self.. Start every nite before going to bed, telling yourself, I don't want to smoke or I don't want any more cigarettes... Do this 10 times before going to sleep. Instead of grabbing a cig.. grab a straw or carrot stick or celery... anything to have in your hand.. even simulate smoking that straw, etc... It won't be easy... Have you ever figured out how much money you would have if not for cigs? Start a jar.. everytime you would go to buy cigs.. put the money in the jar.. at the end of 6 months to a year - you got a lot of money to buy something you want or a vacation. SuziTone <tone102@...> wrote: Morning Suzi, Hope you are well. Thankyou for that link regarding smoking. I probably know every single chemical and the dangers involved being a smoker for more then 34 years. I really do want to quit. The associations will have to go also. Hopefully, I will be able to find an exercise bike as I think that would help. I would have had one already but cannot afford one. Can't smoke and pedal at the same time. Well, I am sure there are many who could. I can no longer walk very far. I used to ironically be the fastest runner in my class. Having had past heart issues I would probably drop dead. I have been selfish too long. Dear 's poignant letter opened my eyes to much to begin with. I did sign up with Quitnet but would not let me finish because I would not put a med in. I do not want any kind of meds. The herbal route I will go. I don't think I will tell you all when I do this at first in fear that I might fail but will let you know when I reach a milestone for me. Thanks again! Believe me though when I say at 45.5, I am not what one would expect. I actually look younger and have a good attitude outside this door. Of course this means nothing. Thanks again I know all this info is sent out of care and that means much Have a beautiful and blessed day Hugs, Toni Try this site http://www.netlabs.net/hp/drx/smoking.htm Have a Suzi What is a weed? Guest guest
Same here, with the hypnosis. I started smoking in 1962 and had my last cigarette in 1979 after listening to Dick Sutphen's "Stop Smoking" hypnosis tape. Never had another, although I can't say I've never *wanted* another. But not badly enough to actually have one. Guest guest
I was thinking something along the lines of "I have no need for a cigarette as I breathe only fresh clean air!" or "I am building a new body and desire fresh clean air!" or something more positive like. Yes...you want to say only positive affirmations as the subconscious can't process words like "can't", "won't", "don't". etc. If we say "I don't want a cigarette", the "don't" is cancelled out, and what the subconscious hears is "I want a cigarette". That's true for all affirmations. Better to say "I am now a non-smoker" or something like that. Gloria
Guest guest
all the healthy things I told myself were good but didn't stop me... so I started telling myself I didn't need them, I controlled my life not them - it helped me more.. plus reading articles of what it could do.. Wow...just goes to show ya we all deal with things so differently. When I was quitting I would not listen to any negativity or stuff about poisoning myself. A friend wrote me a list of all the good stuff that would happen when I was a non-smoker...I wouldn't need to think "do I have cigarettes" everytime I went out or got up in the morning. My clothes would smell nicer. He made up a long list. I couldn't tolerate any of that "it's bad for ya" stuff. I went to one quit smoking meeting given by the American Cancer Society. They showed all these pictures of diseased lungs and stuff. The people in the room clearly became nervous wrecks. I thought...seeing this stuff makes you want to light up even more. LOL! Addiction isn't logical. It responds to stress and other emotional triggers. It keeps you in denial about putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with "this is bad for you". If it were logical no one would abuse alcohol, drugs, smoke, gamble to the point of losing their life savings, etc. It has a life of it's own and feeds off your emotions. Gloria. Guest guest
Toni, I would counsel you to do just the opposite. Let us know when you start, even if you don'd succeed (I hate the word "fail"!!!). Friends don't only encourage you on, they help pick you up when you fall. And love you the whole time. A BIG HUG for you from me!! Guest guest
Toni, the experience I and a lot of other folks have had with stationary exercise bikes is that the seats cause the pelvis to get sore, and is not really any better than a good brisk walk for a few miles a day or every-other day. there are more exercising crap in garage sales than most any other high dollar item. or they are collecting dust in the garage, or used to pile clothes on in the laundry room. best to just get outside and walk. this is just my opinion God bless...lee ----- Original Message ----- From: Sharyn Cerniglia health Sent: Wednesday, August 03, 2005 7:51 AM Subject: RE: Re: Was....apologies...now smoking You can probably get an exercise bike for nothing through your local Freecycle group. www.freecycle.org Sharyn From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of Tone Hopefully, I will be able to find an exercise bike as I think that would help.
