Guest guest
The only thing though that concerns me with physically putting it on him is that it might absorb or evaporate and he would not get the full benefits. Toni, Is the medication herbal or homeopathic? I read on a homeopathic pet site that if you can't get the med down them orally, you can rub it on the back of their neck and it will get absorbed into their system. Not on the fur. You have to really get it down to the skin. I'd give that one a try. Gloria
Guest guest
It really smells like it is alcoholic so maybe that is more the turn off then the taste itself. I think I should give him a break for today and maybe try again in the morning. With tinctures that have an alcohol base, you should squirt some in some hot water, and let it sit to let the alcohol dissipate. Then it is sometimes easier to get it down them. But, with some cats it's never easy! Gloria
Guest guest
I always smear softer meds or whatever on the front of the legs as cats HATE to feel dirty and lick it off. I had a cat who would not eat after surgery so I smeared a little food on her legs and she immediately started licking it off. She could barely stand but she could clean the front of her legs lying down. Onlynaturalpet shipped it out very promptly for me. OK anyway I wanted to first try it on alittle food. He licked and walked away. I went inside to get some raw meat to try and disguise it on top and when I came out, Tuxy had already gobbled it down...grrrrrr OK so I decide to do the shoot in the mouth thing. SUZI...LOL I think I managed to get some up his nose! Now he is hiding somewhere and won't come. I thought about trying what Gayla suggested with the mineral oil on the paws meaning to try and put it on his paws but the way it is going he will just walk on it...that is IF I even got to pick up a paw. I will try again later. It might be easier if there was a human besides me that he trusts (maybe past tense now) but I shall do my best. Just figured I would let you all know that I did get his medicine and I am soooooooo trying here. Hope everyone is enjoying their day Toni

The only thing though that concerns me with physically putting it on him is that it might absorb or evaporate and he would not get the full benefits. I was just thinking about as a baby and having to put thick cream into his eye for pink eye. Of course I cannot kneel on Peep's legs...lol I will try again in a little bit and have meat waiting as a treat. If he would just keep one part still it wouldn't be so bad but his body writhing and clawing and the head going every which way...well..hehe good thing I am a strong little woman Have a wonderful afternoon Kath Toni I always smear softer meds or whatever on the front of the legs as cats HATE to feel dirty and lick it off. Guest guest
Toni, But getting some in him is better than getting nothing in him at all...so if you can smear it on his legs...and he gets some...at least he will get some in him. Guest guest
I always wrap an unhappy kitty in a nice big cuddly towel. They don't much like it, but they don't scratch me, I can get the stuff down their throat, and it is a lot quicker and mor painless. Guest guest
Hi TerriLynne, Hope all is well with you. He was super avoiding me. I coaxed him with some steak (Ant's dinner but oh well LOL) and then picked him up and proceeded to once again aim for the mouth. He did not claw but was really trying to get out of my arms and was crying. I managed I think about 2 drops (the bottle says 1 drop for each 2lbs) and I got some on his leg and side...all I kept thinking was...AWE. Well he is really upset with me now. Hopefully like Caroline says, their love is unconditional. I think the bottle says 3x a day. I have to go and re-check. Stress...lol Thanks TerriLynne Have a wonderful evening Toni I always wrap an unhappy kitty in a nice big cuddly towel. Guest guest
I would give him some meat tomorrow without messing with him so he doesn't think each time you get him you're going to medicate him I agree. It's tempting to try to medicate everytime you can catch him, but psychologically it could hurt your relationship with him. Sometimes when he comes to you just give him treats and show him it's not a trick. Gloria
Guest guest
Hi Glor, Hope you are doing well today. As I said, I got about 2 drops in him which I guess is not much since he is a big boy and this calls for 3 x a day. He did come back though and is napping. The product is herbal and it says that one can give it in food, straight or in water. It really smells like it is alcoholic so maybe that is more the turn off then the taste itself. I think I should give him a break for today and maybe try again in the morning. Thanks Glor Tone Toni, Is the medication herbal or homeopathic? Guest guest
Gloria, I just couldn't let him be...lol Gave him some meat and he was lying there nicely and just went over and stuck the dropper in his mouth. Got about 5 drops in. Now he really isn't talking to me. Tomorrow, God Willing..is a new day It says you can give it to them straight so I just hope that is not harmful in any way. Water is just adding to the volume and it was much easier doing it like this. Have a wonderful night and I hope Oreo is doing well Tone With tinctures that have an alcohol base, you should squirt some in some hot water, and let it sit to let the alcohol dissipate. Guest guest
ROFL... sorry Toni... I've had cats go nuts but if you get them good by the back of the neck and lift the front of them off the ground you can usually get the job done... If I was there I would do it for you. Guest guest
Hi Suzi, I tried to grab the back of the neck. I couldn't find where to grab. I mean he is a big boy but I guess he has no neck. OK so don't give it to him straight then. Put it in the hot water and let it cool first? I just did it straight because it was less stuff I had to give him. Ya know he is pretty smart. If I don't give the medicine when he gets the meat then I might not get him to do so. But I understand. Hopefully he will sleep off his anger with me so it can just begin anew tomorrow Thanks Suzi oh and you mean you are not flying out here to help me? Sleep well Toni
