Guest guest
We use the plantain and jewelweed tincture up here in the northeast too. I made some up today in a blender with vinegar as the menstruum. Another vinegar that has worked well in the past was one made with lavender blossoms. One failure that occurred (and I believe failures are as educational, sometimes more so, than successes) was infection, I was treating a severe case of poison ivy with bentonite clay and lavender vinegar poultice. It was instant soothing relief. I recommended an alterative mix to be taken internally also but the person wasn't willing to go that extra step. After about a week of treating the wound areas about 2x/day, the severe areas started weeping a yellow fluid and the individual went to the doctor and found out it was infected. THEY gave some weird steroid treatment internally and externally. Eventually the stuff healed up. That was an educational experience for me. Hopefully next time the person will listen to instructions. Most of the tannic acid containing plants can be boiled up into a decent antirash skin wash. Oak bark and galls simmered for a while work awesome.
Guest guest
Dromboro is excellent stuff, not only for poison ivy/oak but for just about any skin condition. A little expensive but it works! All over more than anywhere else! YUCK!!! My mother found something called Dromboro at the drug store that was boric acid tablets. Dissolve them in water and use strips of old sheets to put them on your affected areas. I got it so badly that I had to lie on a rubber sheet and be covered with them. :>(((( It dried it up much faster than leaving it alone. Guest guest
As a child I was spreading manure over the garden and ran the feces coated tines through my sneaker and into my toe. The folks, a little concerned to say the least, called up our old osteopathic family doctor. He had them get some domboro tablets and soak my foot in a hot water foot bath laced with them. It healed up quickly with no infection. I'm glad to hear that they are boric acid and not some more extreme chemical drug. > Dromboro is excellent stuff, not only for poison ivy/oak but for just > about any skin condition.
