Guest guest
I've read a lot that depression is a syptom of candida overgrowth but my doctor brought up something interesting yesterday. I was telling him how since the weather has got colder, my depression has gotten worse and my cravings for sugar, milk & snacks have intensified. He responded that my body was trying to raise my serotonin levels by craving these foods. It made me wonder. I know I've suffered from depression for most of my life. I know I was depressed in high school (I'm 32 now) and I can even look back at symptoms as early as childhood. It made me think if the depression has caused me to eat my way into the candida/leaky gut issue. I do remember reading in one book that cases where people had the most difficulty getting candida under control is when they are clinically depression & you can't treat the candida until you treat the depression. Guest guest
Try vitamin D3 supplements for depression. D2 is synthetic and not good at all. Vitamin D is important for mineral absorption. And I just learned that if your body is lacking minerals your cravings for sweets go up (this is either someone's experience, or it's explained in Nourishing Traditions book). Weston Price has a great deal of info regarding D and A (they work synergistically). http://www.westonaprice.org/basicnutrition/vitamindmiracle.html I recently read that vitamin D is deficient in many diabetics. Inadequate D causes hypoglycemia, which makes you crave carbs also. Guest guest
I read in Dr Mercola's site that most people with cancer were found to be low on vitamin D. It would be nice to be out in the sun as most vit D is produced in the skin on sunlight exposure, in winter i take cod liver oil fro vit D, the omega 3 are essential for brain functioning and lacking in our diet, plus the added benefit of vit A and E. 5HTP, a good serotonin and melatonin precursor is good for depression and sleep, i take it at night. Guest guest
I know from hard won experience that when i have eaten foods that feed candida, the cravings only intensified! when i starve the candida by staying off all sugars, that would mean all fruit except for me anyway, cranberries, lemons and black currant; and all grains except quinoa, amaranth, millet and buckwheat: when i stay on the diet i don't crave sugars at all. i do eat stevia and i do eat those 4 " grains " with no adverse affects that i can tell, and my candida had gone systemic/leaky gut for certain! (I do seeds and nuts, meats and fish, cultured veges and cultured milk, raw veges too..) Louise (P. Guest guest
I'd recommend taking B vitamins if you aren't already and going to a tanning salon to help with the depression. Guest guest
Oh, and don't forget that vitamin C also curves sugar cravings. It's in the files section in one of the first documents that I read. It's been working well for me.
