I haven't read that; do you have the reference? However, it can possible be true, since vitamin D is also in meats and eggs, and during the Winter in many parts of the world it is impossible to get enough vitamin D from sun exposure. I rely more on Dr. Weston A. Price who recommends high vitamin cod liver oil, but he cautions about not taking too much. That's why my recommendations are conservative. For those on a budget a quartz halogen lamp (500 watts) can be utilized if the safety glass is removed. A ten minute exposure to the rays of these light sources is roughly equivalent of 1/2 hour in good sunlight. Sperti and Hanovia are brand names of popular sun lamp manufacturers. SAD lamps do not produce enough energy to produce adequate levels of vitamin D, they also have excessive energy bands in the spectrum that can be injurious. It is best not to cover the eyes when being exposed as the Pineal gland requires UV stimulation. UV light does not cause cataracts, it is the infrared that induces them to form. If UV light caused cataracts God would have issued sun glasses to the animals. Also sun exposure does not cause skin cancer. Cancer rates increase the farther people live from the Equator. It is the chemical toxins in the skin that react to the UV radiation that produces the cancer. Be sure to remove the safety glass and don't touch the bulb. Oil from your fingers will cause the glass to swell and it may burst. If you get oil on the lamp take a swab with alcohol and rub it off. Do not wear eye protection but also don't gaze into the light. Use the 2 head dual 500 watt lamps. A daily exposure of about 10 minutes is sufficient. Don't over do it. A mild temporary erythema (reddening of the skin, a mild burn) is OK. Skin cancer is NOT caused by sunlight. It is the stored chemical toxins in the skin that are irritated by the vibrations of the UV light which acts as a cataylst that induces the cancer action. It is desirable to adjunct your light exposure with FAR infrared saunas. Animal fats are solid in the human body because our metabolic temperature is lower than most animals (fish are the exception). These fats combined with carbohydrates store sugars in the adipose tissue. By heating up the skin via FAR, these fats turn liquid and are carried out of the tissue and excreted in the sweat. There's been a lot of talk lately in the MSA group about people who have that tending to be deficient in Vitamin D and how taking it seems helpful. She also has been indoors most of her adult life, away from the sun. Also when my mom was a child cod liver oil high in D was like a miracle on her when she got sick left and right then. Glutathione is so important in MSA and Parkinson's. Glutathione is low in all serious illness. Glutathione is hard to get through the blood brain barrier without using injections or topical creams. It sounds like taking D would greatly help that. I've just been reading about how Glutathione is supposed to be really good for Autism too! Glutathione also protects against oxydation in the brain mitochondria.
