Dave:

Gout happens (high Uric Acid in the blood) from too much Phosphorus in the diet,

does Whey list the Phosphorus content in the product?

Whey and gout

Hello all,

I've been following the whey/inulin/selenium protocol plus low carb diet for 3

weeks and

there are one or two signs of more energy and brain clearing, as well as

bulking up and

looking less emaciated. However, I've also developed gout in the my foot, which

is swollen

and red around the big toe. Has anyone else had this and what have they done

to make it

better?

The other thing I'm interested in is finding out how long it was before people

noticed a real

and lasting improvement on this protocol? I think I now believe that it's

going to work and I'd

love to hear other people's experiences.

Thanks

Dave

Bonnie and Dave - whey is alkaline so helps to neutralize an acidic

body, and because it produces almost no urea loading at all, will not

do anything to gout :) Uric acid crystals in the joints form gout;

uric acid MUST be bound to calcium to be made into urine, thus the

warning about EXCESS meat (not whey) protein, which is acid-forming.

My take on gout is that there may be an under-mobilization of the

uric acid into your urine, so I'd suggest that more calcium,

magnesium and potassium, especially the calcium, will prevent it. To

reverse it you'd probably need more mobilizers for the cal/mag, so

I'd suggest vitamin D and maybe taking the calcium and magnesium in

aspartate or orotate form; aspartic and orotic acids are the

transporters for these minerals.

You can get calcium and magnesium orotate from Donna Crow (no

relation) at http://www.excellentthings.net; perhaps the 2-EAP would

do as well.

Duncan,

Could the gout be caused by too much magnesium and/or calcium? I have

been taking a powdered supplement of 200 mg magnesium and 400 mg

calcium, as well as a trace mineral formula. This was for palpitations

and worked well.

I'm now wondering if those minerals in Whey ( I've been taking 40 gms

a day for a month) might be more than I need?

Dave, no, gout is not caused by magnesium or calcium; calcium is

needed to export the gout crystals. Your supplementing way too low a

dose though, by 4/5 magnesium and at least 1/2 the calcium.
