HERBAL BREAKDOWN

Arnica Flowers

An effective ointment and compress for bruises, sprains, and muscle

pain arnica improves the local blood supply and speeds healing. It

is

anti-inflammatory and increases the rate of reabsorption of

internal bleeding.

Generally arnica is now taken internally only at a homeopathic

dilution,

principally for shock, injury, and pain.

Cayenne

Using Cayenne gets circulation where it is needed. Without Cayenne,

a cure may come slowly or not at all. Cayenne moves blood to the

sick

and dying organs and with it nutrients and healing bio-chemicals.

At

the same time it gets the waste materials carried away.

Marigold (Calendula) Flowers

Today, calendula is one of the most commonly used medicinal herbs,

especially for skin problems. In addition to the remedy, the

tincture is used

externally for cuts. Calendula, which is mainly used externally in

the form

of a cream or tincture, is a popular homeopathic antiseptic and can

be used

to promote healing, even if the skin is broken. It helps control

bleeding, for

example from minor cuts, and abrasions. It is widely used in

midwifery to

treat perineal tears after childbirth.

St. s Wort Aromatic, astringent, resolvent, expectorant and nervine. Used in all pulmonary complaints, bladder troubles, in suppression of urine, dysentery, worms, diarrhoea, hysteria and nervous depression, haemoptysis and other haemorrhages and jaundice. For children troubled with incontinence of urine at night an infusion or tea given before retiring will be found effectual; it is also useful in pulmonary consumption, chronic catarrh of the lungs, bowels or urinary passages. Externally for fomentations to dispel hard tumours, caked breasts, ecchymosis, etc. Peppermint Oil You may be surprised to learn that peppermint oil, a familiar flavoring agent (one of the most widely used in fact), has so many substantiated medicinal benefits. Peppermint oil is well known for its ability to suppress symptoms of indigestion. The active constituent of peppermint,

found in the leaves and flowering tops, is menthol (to three percent), and is the alcoholic component responsible for the plant's characteristic quality to produce a cooling sensation, as well as its medicinal properties. The presence of various esters, particularly menthyl acetate, impart the familiar minty aroma and flavor so familiar to us.

Wintergreen Oil Wintergreen oil is an astringent, stimulant, and diuretic. It contains the same active pain killers as found in aspirin. When steam distilled, this herb#s oil helps relieves the symptoms of colds, headaches, and fever. Some believe chewing the root six weeks each spring will prevent toothache and tooth decay. Wintergreen poultices are used to soothe arthritis and rheumatic pains. Ginger Root Ginger was always known as a medicinal plant and a spice in India and China for thousands of years. Ginger has been used by many as a remedy for the common cold. Additionally, it has also been used as an effective analgesic, anti-pyretic, anti-viral, in the treatment of hypertension, and in the prevention of

atherosclerosis. Other benefits of ginger include its ability to cleanse the colon, reduce spasms and cramps, stimulate circulation, and aid metabolism. Homeopathic practitioners even recommend it for sexual disorders. An added benefit to Ginger is that it is a strong antioxidant and effective microbial agent for sores and wounds.
