You don't really ever get rid of Crohn's, if I'm not mistaken.

All you can do is eat perfectly and try to minimize flare ups.

Anti-inflammatory foods and supplements will certainly be beneficial.

easily treated.

I'm not sure if you can eradicate it. The chiropractor that I see says that

there is a doctor (Chiropractor) who only treats Crohn's and with his strict

protocol, it can be eliminated. I have no idea if this is true but I can

ask for his name on Thursday when I go see my chiropractor. I know that

it's 100 percent no caffeine (chocolate and coffee) and no bread or pasta.

I've had Crohn's for 27 years and I've learned what works for me. I've

avoided medication and surgeries since 1986 (had re-section that year after

five years of prednisone). Everyone is different and the trick with Crohn's

is learning what works and doesn't work for you. I drink only water and

herbal tea, very little bread or pasta or red meat. Nuts are tricky and I

tend to avoid them. Chocolate is an issue and I work hard on avoiding it

(I'm not perfect). Dairy bothers me at times and sometimes it's okay. When

it is okay, I like plain organic goat yogurt. I've greatly reduced the

supplements that I take. I've tried close to every probiotic made. I like

Primal Defense and Kyodophilus. Castor Oil packs for flares. Moderate

exercise - yoga and rebounding seem to work for me. Lots of veggies,

lightly cooked or juiced. NO Hydrogenated oils (that's a biggie). I

haven't had a donut in fifteen years. Bagels are also off the list. Apple

Cider Vinegar in water is fabulous. I give my son the whey/inulin/selenium

every day and believe in it but it painfully bloats me. Avoid sugar. And

I've found that Chiropractic adjustments can help during flares. I'm sure

there's more but that's a start.

Good luck.

I think that there is a current study at NIH that is testing to see whether

Crohns could be eradicated with antibiotics. Here and there I have run across a

paper on the idea that there might be an infectious link.

http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00513552?term=crohn & rank=20

Here is the info on the nih trial on crohns and antibiotics. On the bottom there

is info on the investigator, the hospital, the contact info if you are

interested.

If you go to clinicaltrial.gov and search for crohns you will see many other

trials there too.

I have an aunt who has crohns and done a little looking around over time and

there is some evidence that it is related to unpasturized dairy or some bacteria

that is related to dairy. She wasn't particularly interested in reading up on

this and wanted to do as her doctor wanted so I dropped the issue (I don't have

links to research articles or references, but if you google, you can find info.)

Might be worthwhile to get tested for Celiac. I read somewhere that

Crohn's can be misdiagnosed Celiac. Or maybe it was vice versa, can't

find the reference now.

Thing is, , that a permanent remission isn't seen by doctors as

a cure. Fact is, when you go back to the diet that caused Crohn's,

you'll get it again, because it's a dietary syndrome.

Google inulin references to find my inulin page, and go to the actual

references to see that bowel dysbiosis is indeed a precursor to

Crohn's disease. Here's the tinyurl: http://tinyurl.com/2m29z

Correct the dysbiosis and you've cured the disease because in about

96% the disease was caused by a bacterial fluorish! Entertain another

bacterial fluorish to get a NEW Chrohn's disease, not a flare-up of

the old one.

Remember, doctors (!!) at McGill are professing a cure for Crohn's

disease with a strong probiotic, I think it's called VSL#3 -- and

then we have the supporting data from published journals that is

refers to and are posted on my site, AND the fact that Crohn's

diminishes and usually reverses on the diet we use on this very

list ;)
