Guest guest
For those of you who have never had a UTI (urinary tract infection), you are so fortunate. Those of us who have had them recognize the burning sensation when you urinate. I used to get UTIs at one job because I was stressed a lot, wasn't eating properly and going to the bathroom regularly. A girlfriend who was into natural healing explained to me that UTIs often start when the bacteria in urine or fecal matter back up (like so many of us being constipated a lot and it stays in our body for too long) and it causes infections. Yes, you might have to have antibiotics as UTIs can cause real problems with your kidneys, especially if you have a fever and/or pain in the back area above your hips where the kidneys are located (if you have fever or pain in your kidney area, do go right away to the doc or emergency room so you don't end up hospitalized with kidney infection). Make sure you drink, drink, drink loads of fluids (and cranberry juice without sugar or corn syrup added as this makes it worse) when you first notice it burns or hurts when you urinate. If you try not to drink thinking it will help, it makes it worse (I know as it happened on a trip and I thought if I drank less it would help). You can buy cranberry tablets or capsules at many grocery stores now in their health food vitamin store section~I always travel with them (and charcoal for upset stomach) just in case even though I haven't had a UTI in years; the concentrated cranberry really helps. My friend always had me take an herbal laxative and diuretic when I had the UTIs and they helped immediately. The antibiotics take a few days (pain) to kick in and the docs often give you a muscle relaxant (the one that makes you pee orange) and that's to help you until the antibiotics kick in. in La Selva Beach CA Re: Re: OT: UTI please help! Dawn, I've had UTI's since I was 5 yrs old, severe, and several IVP's along the way. I take cranberry juice tablets daily, but my old fall back is fresh parsley. Lots of it. We were never without fresh parsley when I was growing up, and at the first signs of a UTI she had me eating lots of parsley. Saved us lots of trips to the doc's. Might at least tide you over until your doc comes back from vacation, unless it is too severe, then you do need to be seen. Parsley has mild antibiotic and diuretic properties, and along with lots of water will help keep your kidneys flushed. Cranberry juice has always helped me, but I don't have IC. Guest guest
i just want to say i agree with karen 100%...when i get UTIs there is a reason i get them...my doctor told me that i have to use a different position for intercourse...if anyone wants to talk about this, i would prefer to do it via our own email and not in the group...if anyone would like to email me, that would be fine~~ * jacque*
