Good question, I was wondering that myself.

yes, the recipe uses sugar and black tea. i'm told that these ingredients

just activate the essence of the mushroom, and that there's little if any

left in the brew. hard for me to believe, but then i've heard great things

about it. i'll post anything i find out of interest on (thanks

kathy).

Your welcome, Dianna.

There were some questions about using Kombucha because of the sugar. It is

true that the sugar is used up during the fermentation process, and the

longer you ferment the more sugar is used up. If you ferment long enough,

you get a very tart tea. Even diabetics can use Kombucha.

Also, I don't use black tea. I use a combination of organic green and Puh Er

(sp?) teas, so I get the benefit of the cancer fighting and other medicinal

properties of these teas.

For more information, visit http://w3.trib.com/~kombu. Solid information,

and lots of questions answers on this site.

I would suggest that you join the groups listserve if you intend to brew

Kombucha. Although it is easy to brew, there are many variables to the

process.

Best regards, Kathy

Another site in German, english and other different languages about Kombucha

is: http://www.kombu.de

And they told me that you better use honey instead of sugar. Is that true?

I have some extra babies and could give you one next week in Minneapolis.

I¹m going to Chicago this week, so schedule is hectic.

P.S. My babies were raised on half organic black tea and half Essiac tea.

That is a herbal tea the Ojibwa used for lump medicine. Lumps meaning

anything from a cyst to cancer.

Hi Barb,

I am not sure on how to package for shipping.  For all others reading this,

do you have suggestions on how to mail?  I am in Arizona so it will be a trip!

Any help greatly appreciated!  Thanks Barb! I will gladly pay shipping!

Kombucha Mushroom

 Terry,

I am in Florida, if you have a way for me to send you a mushroom, idea-wise, I

could send you one.  I have 3 now and they are all lively and good ones.  I have

only used Green Tea (6 bags) Black Tea (4 bags) and Camomile (2 bags) in a

gallon of filtered water I grow them in.  1 2/3 cups of white sugar and 2-4

cups of the  leftover tea on my mushroom.  Let me know any ideas about sending.

Of course, I would have to have postage paid.

Hi Terry and all....

In the past I have always put the SCOBY in a ziploc bag along with the

starter liquid, sealed the ziploc, then in turn sealed that ziploc in a

seal-a-meal type bag. This then goes into a Priority VHS shipping box from

the post office. Additionally I will only mail out on Monday or Tuesday to

ensure that the package gets there before the weekend.

I believe that other folks seal the first ziplock into a second one. I worry

about that one a bit, seeing visions of the box getting compressed and the

ziplocs bursting open.

As long as the box is sturdy all should go well.

My 7 yr old autistic son suffers horribly with candida.

My mother recently gave me a kombucha mushroom, and I have read good

things about it, including it is a good pro-biotic and good for

candida. I am wondering if anyone has heard of it, or tried it, and any

feedback, or advice on it?

Thanks.

Amber.

I drank a great deal of Kombucha tea when I was very ill, (had colon cancer).

I used to crave it as it seemed to help my digestion greatly, and it was so

refreshing. However, I was not able to heal with it, not that it was not

good, I just didn't make much progress with it. It just sort of kept me going,

able to eat. When I started working with Dr. Biamonte (clinical nutritionist

who specializes in candida treatment) I asked him about it. He said it was ok

to drink occasionally, but if drunk more than 21 days, the culture can mutate

and cause problems. I dropped it like a hot potato. Don't want any iffy

stuff. If it is not healing, I try to leave it behind. I am healing well, by

the

way. Finally over leaky gut, which is a big step. There was a pretty simple

test I took to determine if I had it, cost about $100 or so. Then I took

lots of glutamine and mucin complex, and cal/mag butyrate, laid off all

fermented

foods, and of course all fruit, dairy, and all grains. In about 6 months I

repeated the test and it confirms it is now healed. You might want to check

into doing that test for your child. If the gut is leaky, many problems result

and it is hard to make progress.
