Guest guest
The NAC listed by the writer in the " natural " article cited below is actually a non-natural drug with a half life of only a couple of hours. It is rapidly hydolyzed in the body to free form cysteine, the toxin described in the paragraph or so above it. The Silymarin promotes glutathione creation, but does not supply actual molecules of bonded cysteine to do it. Guest guest
Yes, I also have heard some controversial things about taking NAC. As most people with health problems are sensitive it probably would be wise to avoid this one. But for those of us who can't take any form of whey it is interesting to look at all the other things that can help. I know that many of these things by themselves may not do much but I wonder if you do them all.... (such as, eat the foods, sea vegetables & herbs, plus take the supplements, like milk thistle and selenium)... if that would be a good help. Guest guest
In that case, prefer cystine capsules over NAC If you MUST use NAC remember that the short half life means 4-5 doses daily. The diminishing return cited in medical literature due to NAC's toxicity is self-explanatory, yet the useful dose is at least half that which overt toxicity occurs at -- about 500 mg x5 daily. So be prepared for side effects. I agree with using more supplements in this case to get some overlap of effect.
