Yes, there are all kinds of things that can help if the person

truly wants to get better. I'm not a doctor and don't prescribe any

cures but this is what I would do.

First, learn EFT, emotional freedom technique. There are

practioners all over and the website www.emofree.com has a collection

of very inexpensive (basic stuff is free and that will take care of

90% of what people use it for) training CDs and DVDs. EFT is awesome

for helping a person deal with addictive cravings. It uses

affirmations and tapping on different acupoints to heal up disruptions

in the body's energy circuits (which manifest as negative emotions,

disease, addictions and phobias, etc.). I've been incorporating it

into my practice and although I haven't dealt with a meth case I have

seen it work some wonders with cravings.

Second: EAT NUTRITIOUS MEALS. This is probably one of the most

understressed aspect of healing. If the person isn't getting a lot of

healthy nutrition his or her brain and body will not function

correctly and will not be able to adequately recover from the toxic

waste it was subjected to. Most americans do not understand how to

eat in a healthy manner and this takes research, time, and a

willingness to make changes in one's life.

Third: HERBAL SUPPORT. Basically, a person needs to detox his

or her body (alteratives) while soothing the nervous system with

nervines (I would go with skullcap). While that is happening your

nutritional program is helping it build itself back to health. Liver

support (dandelion, milk thistle, lots of others) will be needed BIG

TIME. I like dandelion, it's a good detoxifier, a gentle bowel

cleanser (important while detoxing), and free if you gather your own.

If the person with the problem has the cash there are some liver

support formulas based on dandelion and milk thistle available at the

local health food store.

THE SHORT ANSWER: Do a 3 day juice fast, eat awesomely healthy

meals with lots of produce, take a dandelion root decoction or

tincture 3x/day along with skullcap tincture 3x/day.

Terri,

Speaking as a fully recovered former meth addict myself here.........

When I finally quit, back in October of '94, I wasn't into herbs or health. However, looking back, I can say that diet is VITAL! When one quits, the body is already in a state of nutritional depletion, and must basically rebuild itself from scratch.

Of course sleep is also vitally important, but hard to do. It took me years to get used to sleeping normally again. At first, I was terrified of sleep.

As far as herbs go, nothing will make a difference unless this person has actually quit. If he is still using, then there is nothing you can do. However, if he has quit for good, then I would recommend any or all of the ingredients in the Nerve Sedative formula in our Files section of the list's homepage. Taken as a tea (tastes awful!) or in capsules, several times a day. This would help with the anxiety and the general jitters that go along with quitting.

And don't forget the support of friends and counselors. Also vital!

But this person has to really want to quit, to change. If not, there is nothing anyone can do but watch him get worse and worse. Or just distance yourself from them so you don't have to watch their deliberate decline.

Meth is as much a spiritual poison as it is a physical one. A person using it will lie, cheat, steal from their best friends, just to make it to the next bag. Be a loving friend, but don't let your guard down.

Sometimes "tough love" is the best love. Hang in there. You have our good thoughts, prayers, and support!

Peace, love, laughter

Can anyone tell me if there are herbs out there which can #1 stop thecraving for methamphetamines, and, #2 reverse some of the negativeeffects such as the lack of most feelings other than rage? Thanks much,TerriLynne

Hi and all,

When I look in the files for nerve sedative formula, I find nothing by

that name. I found an ear and nerve formula, a nerve formula, and a

nerve regeneration formula. I am worried about the regeneration formula

because it contains ephedra and coffee. Aren't those both stimulants? I

feel most concerned about the Ephedra.

So is the formula indicated by the one with black cohosh, hops,

lady's slipper root, valerian, wood betony, and mistletoe?

I have to admit that sometimes I get lost in the files. :)

I'm in the process of trying to make an order with herbalcom, so I'd

love a quick answer.

Hopefully,

TerriLynne

The nerve formula is the one you want

Most all the formulas are under Herbal Formulas by Drs Schulze &

then check the Natural Herbal Remedies for ones contributed by members

and then there is the Organic Supplements, for things like iron, calcium complete tonic and nutrition, etc

It can be confusing, but if you visit them every so often, you get to remembering where everything is (for the most part)Suzi

This is well said . I've heard it referred to as the " demon

drug " and I think it's a good description.
